McCain attacks Trump administration and inability to 'separate truth from lies'
Republican senator uses Munich speech to reflect on disarray
in Trump White House, saying president contradicts himself

John McCain said on Friday that Donald Trumps administration was in disarray and that Natos founders would be alarmed by the growing unwillingness to separate truth from lies.
The Republican Senator broke with the reassuring message that US officials visiting Germany have sought to convey on their debut trip to Europe, telling a Munich security conference the resignation of the new presidents security adviser, Michael Flynn, over his contacts with Russia reflected deep problems in Washington.
I think that the Flynn issue obviously is something that shows that in many respects this administration is in disarray and theyve got a lot of work to do, said McCain, a known Trump critic, even as he praised Trumps defence secretary. The president, I think, makes statements [and] on other occasions contradicts himself. So weve learned to watch what the president does as opposed to what he says, he said.
Without mentioning the presidents name, McCain lamented a shift in the US and Europe away from the universal values that forged the Nato alliance seven decades ago. McCain also said the alliances founders would be alarmed by the growing inability, and even unwillingness, to separate truth from lies.

(42,641 posts)1. Should McCain switch and become a Democrat?
How about Lindsay Graham?
Susan Collins?

(61,900 posts)2. Not likely to happen. Republican objections to Trump are 99.99% talk.
Worth a look:

What's he gonna do about it? Whine on the Sunday talk shows? Send someone a strongly-worded letter?
McCain's "attacks" on the Trump administration have been about as effective as holding up a cigrarette lighter to stop an avalanche, and his votes in Congress even less so.
