DeVos criticized teachers at D.C. school she visited and they are not having it

DeVos, who has no professional experience in public education, is an avowed proponent of voucher schools, charter schools, online schools and other alternatives to traditional public schools. Teachers across the country have been galled by what they see as her lack of faith in — and understanding of — the public schools that educate nearly nine in 10 of the nation’s children.

Jefferson educators found her comments about their work hard to take: On Friday evening, the school responded to DeVos via its Twitter account, taking exception to the education secretary’s characterization of Jefferson teachers.

“We’re about to take her to school,” the first of 11 rapid-fire tweets said.

The tweetstorm singled out teachers like Jessica Harris, who built Jefferson’s band program “from the ground up,” and Ashley Shepherd and Britany Locher, who not only teach students ranging from a first- to eighth-grade reading level, but also “maintain a positive classroom environment focused on rigorous content, humor, and love. They aren’t waiting to be told what to do.”

“JA teachers are not in a ‘receive mode,'” the tweets concluded. “Unless you mean we ‘receive’ students at a 2nd grade level and move them to an 8th grade level.”

by tearing down teachers. She's only creating more resistors to her lousy plans to defund our public schools.

I stand with those supporting education for all.

How is a Amway, pyramid scheme, Grand Rapids, big cash Republican donor going to serve US? The goal is destroy public education for this high roller.

Amway and other direct-to-consumer sales companies are NOT pyramid schemes. They sell real products. Pyramid schemes are illegal and are based on investing without anything of substance to offer. If we are to give genuine criticism, we need to be truthful in what we criticize.

All that being said, I can't stand the woman!

Which means that the only real way to make money is to get as many distributers UNDER you as possible.

John Oliver did a good piece on these firms;

It's a 30 minute piece, but well worth the time

I have not yet listened to J.O.'s piece (I am a fan!), but definitely some companies are better than others. If anyone is interested in multilevel marketing - or better, network marketing, which does not define "levels" - company integrity is something that should be carefully evaluated before investing your time. You should not have to invest anything but a very minimal amount of money (in my book, that is well below $100).

What needs to be remembered is all companies, in many ways, are structured like this. At the top are a President, CEO, BoD, District Managers, Middle Managers, etc. and a range of employees and salespeople. They also employ marketing companies, lawyers, accountants, webmasters, corporate trainers, and much more. Then, they need to pay for merchandise and/or raw materials plus the cost of distribution to all their outlets or direct shipping, as in Amazon. On top of this, they have the cost and upkeep of outlets, such as department stores, along with taxes. ALL THIS, plus PROFITS, goes into the price of good that the consumer pays. All these costs are "hidden" in the price tags. This is the cost of doing business; the expenses in network marketing are just differently distributed. One type of business is not more "reputable" than the other.

The Bible advocates, before engaging in any venture, "Sit down and count the cost." Don't rush into things. Whether it is a network marketing company, a franchise, or an independent startup (including your own!), do your homework. That will add greatly to your chances of success.

but that isn't honest of her to criticize all of them. There might be one that cares.

Her attack on the teachers is prelude to a larger attack. She will claim teachers everywhere have lost direction -- and tRumpanzees will cheer her. Then she will say it is necessary to impose curriculum guidelines -- for the good of the children (isn't it ever thus?). Those teachers and schools who don't knuckle under will be denied federal funds.

That is just one way she plans to squeeze the public school system and replace it with christo-dominionist charter schools -- poorer outcomes, but profitable.
