Privilege makes him blind to bigotry

By Michael D'Antonio
Updated 3:14 PM ET, Sat February 25, 2017

By now we should all be accustomed to the way that Donald Trump twists almost everything to make it about him -- personally -- and not about whatever issue is at hand ...

His answer will invariably begin with a preamble that calls attention to his own greatness, in politics or business or both, after which he will respond he is the "least racist" or "least anti-Semitic" person one could ever meet ...

... he is .. a man .. so isolated by wealth, power and his own moral laziness that he has never grown out of the 1950s racial mentality of his youth in Queens ...

As a billionaire surrounded by yes men and yes women, Trump has rarely mixed with people who might challenge his view of the world. This is why he's disturbed when people call out his insulting statements. No one I care about ever complains like this, he thinks to himself. These people criticizing me now must be out to get me ...

I might add that it also helps explain why he's such an aspirational figure to his legions of oafs and boors: they wish they could carry on just like that, and not get away with it but have society reward them for it.

It's not mental illness, but just the same spoiled, cruel and bullying behavior that he's gotten away with his whole life. Did anyone expect him to change??

he is in debt to the russians and others. he actually is not a success but he thinks he should be so add resentment to it.

there are others like romney who also grew up with privilege and he actually does make a lot of money but he doesn't react the way trump does. same for bush and many others.

and most people do not brag the way trump does as if he has some need to prove something.

And I think you're right that he boasts because if his insecurity/resentments. And since he's always gotten away with saying anything - including lying - if things aren't going his way, he sees no reason to change just because he's supposed to act like a president. His lack of knowledge about things the rest of us take for granted - like history and geography - are truly scary. But he has no curiosity, feels like he can bully his way through like he always has.
