(7,006 posts)As a "Deputy Chair" in the DNC Bylaws. So what is that title? Likely nothing much at all.

(3,977 posts)"And I found something insincere about Perez immediately nominating Keith to be Deputy Chair. What the hell is Deputy Chair? What are its powers and responsibilities? The feeling I got when Perez did this was that his side was tossing Progressives, not the bone, but the plastic wrapper around the doggy treat. Most likely, it was a tactic to silence Keith and Progressives. At least Keith won't have to resign from his House seat. "
Is Keith so stupid he would accept , hug , shake hands and join presser if this was the case ...ugh.

(12,804 posts)I watched it live and Keith's face in the beginning looked very somber.
And what is Deputy Chair anyway? What power does it have and what responsibilities does it have?
If it is not in the DNC bylaws, than it was an empty gesture that Keith may have been forced to swallow.
The calls for unity I found lame. They sounded more like calls for conformity.

(8,173 posts)they would do to express unity no matter which of them won. Likely Ellison would have made Perez the same offer.

(26,045 posts)...with some of his backers.
He seems to have built a very nice partnership with Ellison, and they both seem to be promoting the sort of party unity that doesn't stand for "my side won, your side lost, so shut up and fall in line obediently" (which, frankly, has all-too-often been the meaning of that phrase).
While I will continue to watch how this plays out carefully, I think Perez deserves a shot. Besides, this was more than just a Establishment-Progressive proxy war -- if it had been so, why would Chuck Schumer and Harry Reid have been backing Ellison? Let's not turn it into a way to fight a Democratic Party Civil War for the next four years...we may have an actual civil war on our hands before then.

(365 posts)Yes Perez deseves a shot. He has always been a solid progressive. I think he will do good and surprise a lot of people.

Please, just stop with this. It's counterproductive, not to mention childish and petty.

(145 posts)anti Israel stuff on Ellison, but here's the deal. I really could give a fuck right now if Perez or Ellison is in the DNC chair. Either guy is going to push a democrat in every race, be it a progressive ideolog or a more "establishment" candidate. Right? Still going to be a democract. That's all I care about at this point, resist Trump now, fuck worrying about progressive butt hurt, or establishment central third way'ism. If we get off into the weeds fighting crickets with wooden swords, over this shit, we are going to get eaten by the damn tiger in the grass, not to disparage tigers in any way.

(725 posts)Third and fourth parties don't win. So, it all comes down to which side your mind and heart and conscience draws you to. You have compassion and you have love. Somehow most republicans for many years have missed those things.

(6,594 posts)I voted for and knocked doors for Bernie and I was in Keith's corner, but this is also a win for our party.
Trump is building a wall of hate and we have to principled progressives with deep roots in the Latino and Hispanic communities leading our party. Even moving that dial from 66% to 82% in those voting blocks wins us about 15 of the swing districts we need on the left coast and mountain west. Add the districts that Clinton won in the rust belt that also voted in Republicans into the house and that's a majority.

How do you know that Keith would not have done same if he won?
Too bad people don't hear Keith's words about unity. Strange to believe in a guy yet suddenly not.

All the smearing by a certain faction didn't work.
Keith and Tom are friends.. I can't imagine he was too happy with the smear jobs on his friend.
