I keep hearing that the other shoe is going to drop. Senators coming out of confidential meetings being very somber seemingly knowing that there is some serious crap that went on and might be continuing going on. We've talked hear about all the signs that the Trump campaign was coordinating efforts with the Russians and that many of his people have intricate ties with Russia or Russians. We see how Trump is very complimentary to Putin. We hear calls for independent special prosecutors investigations in this matter. We see Repugs in both the House and Senate deflecting those calls or saying that they are capable of investigating. We see other Repug Senators and Congressmen calling for special prosecutor investigations. We see calls for Sessions to recuse himself. We see Priebus talking with the FBI telling them to lay off. We see Trump tweeting that this whole Russian thingy is created by the Dems and the media to counter their big loss. Etc. Etc. Etc.
All the while the clock is ticking and we are getting further and further away from all of this and talking more about Trump's tweets and his still being in campaign mode.
Bottom line - where are we with the Russian thing? Is anything really going to happen? Will there be investigations? Or will we just see this stonewalling going on until this gets pushed aside. Will Trump run out the clock on this and just skate away unscathed like he's been doing all along?
Can anybody tell me where we are with this whole matter. Cause if Russia did try to sabotage our election and if Trump and his people were in cahoots - the very fabric of our democracy is at stake.

To be honest, I'm pessimistic. I was optimistic for a while there, but with the FBI giving Priebus permission to say the NYT story was overblown and so many Republicans speaking against an investigation or just acting like everything is business as usual, I'm not very confident we'll ever get the answers nor special election we deserve. If things really were that sinister, I think someone would have prevented Trump from taking office in the first place.
I would love to be proven wrong.

(1,683 posts)He and other top administration spokespeople have repeatedly and blatantly lied. Are we supposed to just believe this guy because he says so?
This would have been an easy lie for him to have made, too. Even IF it is an actual lie, Priebus knew the FBI would not say anything until the investigation would be near its end. That could be a while. Regardless, even if the investigation were to end this week with criminal actions being uncovered, a possible falsehood told by Priebus on television this past week would be the least of the Trump camp's problems.
There will be no harm visited upon the Trump camp as a result of Priebus' statement.

(18,124 posts)to drag this thing out with enough BS distraction and obfuscation that we, the decent citizens who wants answers and the short attention span citizen(trump voter), will just let it fade away some day soon. With social media, I hope we have the power to force out reps to do something about this trumpmess of an administration. They already have had a earful when one's without cowardice showed up at local town hall meetings. We'll see, won't we?

(111,104 posts)But, Comey, is not sure that there isn't something that might come up? He is hesitating to declare the investigation over, maybe. He wants to help Trump and the Republicans, as much as he can, but he doesn't want to react prematurely?
If it looks like it is going to take a turn for the worse, then the Republicans will probably end it. They think it is "fake news" and not a real threat to our country. It would indicate an incompetence beyond the comprehension of anyone in such a position.
