Attorney General Jeff Sessions is scheduled to deliver a speech at the Justice Department Tuesday to celebrate African American History Month.
Sessions's 1986 nomination to a federal judgeship was derailed by accusations of racism during his tenure as a U.S. attorney. Those accusations resurfaced during his confirmation hearing to be attorney general, but they didn't stop Sessions from winning confirmation.
Sessions was accused of trying to curb voting rights of black voters and for making racist comments to colleagues.
Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) made headlines when she attempted to read Coretta Scott Kings letter during debate over Sessions's nomination. The letter criticized and urged Congress to block Jeff Sessions 1986 nomination to be a federal judge.

Sessions is a racist, a very ugly racist. The United States government is now a racist entity, although to one extent or another it always has been but now it is a full blown racist entity.
Too bad there is to date not one patriot in the GOP, other than Darrel Issa, who woulda thought I would ever say that!

And I thought we were long past those days...

(624 posts)granddaddy told stories when he was a kid. Sorry if that sounds inappropriate, but that's truly how I feel. He just oozes something from every facet of his being that repulses me. That he is our AG is something I find abhorrent and shocking. I am just stunned at what is going on in our country right now.

(82,849 posts)"Why, I remember my grandpappy telling me how hard those African Americans used to work. Why, they'd go from kin til kin't* and never complain a bit. Then they'd all go to their little shacks and shanties, and dance and sing up a storm, he said. Not like today, when everybody expects to be paid a full day's wage for barely working eight hours. And if I was to use grandpappy's tried-and-true methods - for their own good, you understand - why, I'd be the one arrested for breaking the law.
"Anyway, where was I? Oh yes, we're all mighty proud of all the African Americans who work here in the Justice Department, even if the waste baskets sometimes get pretty full."
*You start workin' when "kin" barely see, and keep workin' til you "kin't" see no more.
