Tom Udall/Gary Peters ticket will help Democrats get over 270 ev winning all of the States Clinton

carried in 2016 by a double digit margin 183v plus all of the Southwestern states (AZ,CO,NV,and NM) 214ev and
VA-13 (227ev)
MN-10 (237ev)
MI-16 (253ev)
PA-20 (273ev)
WI-10 (283ev)
Udall and Peters US Senate seats are up for re-election in 2020. They can choose to not seek re-election to focus all of their attention on unseating Trump. Democrats have plenty of top tier candidates to choose from to win the NM US Senate seat
Hector Balderas or Ben Lujan and the MI US Senate Seat Jennifer Granholm or Mark Schauer . If Udall and Peters decide to run for re-election and the Presidency, Democrats are going to occupy the MI and NM governorship.

You're right about the male part, not the white part.

It's disgusting how some people think it's acceptable to openly say they wouldn't vote for someone just on the basis of their skin or gender. This is the party that strives for a post racial society and equal rights among all and that mentality is cancerous and and pointless source of division. Discrimination isn't cool no matter who it's directed at.

Because that's essentially what your trying to say.

A candidate merely being a woman is no guarantee that they would be preferable.

He won the electoral college, he lost by over 3 million votes. By the way, he won the majority of white female voters.

The last thing I want to see is people on our side bashing candidates in 2020 who happen to have great policy proposals get bashed simply for their race or gender. Likewise I don't want to see mediocre uninspired candidates elevated simply because their race and gender. The single most important mission in 2020 is defeating Donald Trump, and any source of unneeded division among us must be eradicated right now because if we don't get our act together and focus on what's truly important, then our side won't be successful.

I will vote for any candidate, regardless of their gender or race, I proudly voted for Obama in 08 and Hillary in 16. All I ask is that the best person is chosen, instead of filling some sort of identity quota.

Actually it's the very definition of racism to raise rejection against candidates because of their race. This is the sort of thing that turns off voters from joining the party and it's amazing that I'm seeing people here openly voicing these sorts of sentiments.

How about by 2020, you focus on a candidates overall record and policy proposals before deciding if they excite you or not?

If we don't get these people in line, they could cost us the election in 2020 by dividing our party and turning off potential voters. These people are part of the problem. This isn't how you win over voters!

Not looking to get anyone in line, except perhaps myself.

I vote for candidates based upon their positions.

I reject choosing candidates based upon their race or gender. Which is exactly what the post I responded to was doing. Dismissing potential candidates based on their race or gender.

If two white guys make our best ticket, then I will support it.

But their race or gender will have nothing to do with it.

Nobody knows who's going to run in 2020, but it's important to keep and open mind and not preemptively vilify people or decide they aren't exciting because of what they look like before we even hear any policy proposals. If these sentiment aren't dealt with now it can become a major source of division in the primaries. And it will cost us.

He's one of my Senators. I've met him several times and he always remembers who I am, which impresses me. But he's my age, which means he'll be over 70 in 2020.

Plus, quite frankly, I think he's entirely too mild-mannered for either the running or the job.

Let's not put a lot of energy into worrying about who the nominee will be nearly four years down the road. Let's concentrate on dealing with what's happening right now, and then winning back the House and Senate in 2018. That should come very much ahead of anything else.

As for Democrats in NM having plenty of top tier candidates to run for Senate in 2020, I can't imagine who you are thinking of. Hardly anyone is jockeying to run for Governor in this state in 2018. If Udall doesn't run for the Senate in 2020, the only Dems I can think of who might go for it do not inspire me in the least.

Regarding Udall's age, Udall will be 72 on January 2021. Assuming he serves 2 terms, he will be 80.
Regarding the US House and US Senate Races in 2018.
Democrats need to make sure all of the red states Democratic US Senators (Donnelly-IN,McCaskill-MO,Tester-MT,Heitkamp-ND,and Manchin-WV) get re-elected and Democrats need to protect purple state Democratic US Senators who are facing a top tier GOP challenger (Nelson-FL,Stabenow-MI,Brown-OH,Casey-PA,and Baldwin-WI) get re-elected. Plus we have to unseat Flake-AZ, Heller-NV and the 51st seat could be either in TX-Cruz or AL-Strange/Sessions old seat.

for the NM Governor in 2018. Tom Udall publicly decided not to seek that office. Grisham would be giving up her seat in Congress, and I don't know NM District 1 well enough to know if another Democrat would successfully win that seat. But she would probably make a good Governor.

I know the current Mayor of Santa Fe, Javier Gonzales is considering it. While I think he's a pretty decent Mayor, he's been somewhat divisive, and not sure if, were he to win the election, he'd be a good and effective Governor.

And Tom Udall, nice man as he is, is too old to run for President. Again, I'm his age, and even though he looks a good ten years younger than he is, I still don't want to see another old person in that office.

We don't need yet another Boomer in the Oval Office. It is beyond time for the younger generation to take over.

Right HERE in Michigan. Thanks!

Who are Hector Balderas or Ben Lujan? Live in Michigan, don't know them in the slightest.

Jennifer Granholm would LOSE a Senate race in Michigan and we have PLENTY of others that could take the seat if Peters ran for PRESIDENT --- Not V.P., President. As that would be the only way Michiganders would be willing to let Gary go.

Mark Schauer has lost how many times now -- 3 (Governor Race - Once, Congressional Race - Twice) = No Thanks!
