No other way he'll get Americans to unite behind his presidency. The only question is whether it will be NK or some Middle Eastern country. He needs to get that "Go America, let's get those bastards" spirit going again.

(23,292 posts)The rhetoric is escalating. Except dumpy can't focus on anything for more than a few minutes at a time. He could declare war on New Jersey just as easily.

(8,203 posts)the horrors of war, up close and personal - this is a subject IMHO that we should tread lightly with - if some think that a "gung ho" might salvage this administration of our govt. have at that thinking..we are waiting - you think we have resistance now???
No one should be waving the ol' red, white and blue for war...

(22,035 posts)One of the main reasons that the George W. Bush Administration was able to pull off their fake wars was because they still had credibility. Consider that when Secretary of State Colin Powell testified before the United Nations, he represented clarity and truth; his veracity was never questioned until later. And Donald Rumsfeld was almost a matinee idol given his performances at his press briefings.
Donald Trump does not have that benefit of the doubt because so much of what he's said has already been proven false. In spite of their mendacity and general evilness, the Bush team wasn't ignorant and stupid; they deeply understood how the government works. The clowns in power now can't even find the light switches in the White House.
Obviously, the Bush team blew it and after Hurricane Katrina they never regained the public's trust. Mr. Trump has never had the broader public's trust. It's hard to see how he could rally the country around a military action particularly since he has no military experience and he's questioned the quality and commitment of our armed services. My rhetorical question for the conspiracy-minded among us is this: At this point in our history and circumstances, would the military, CIA or whomever actually create a false flag operation that would draw the country into a war?
I wonder what the military commanders think of this president. It's understandable if that ill-defined group of senior officers would question the military judgment of, say, President Clinton who never served. But they would never have questioned his intellectual judgment. This president is crazy and the officers must see that.
Would the Joint Chiefs allow the US to be drawn into a very dangerous war knowing that it was concocted for domestic political purposes? I'm not suggesting an insurrection, rather that they would use all of their bureaucratic abilities to keep the president from taking any such actions.
We live in frightening times.

The minute he tries to start a real war is the minute his Presidency ends.

hey if he wants to commit an illegal act, leave us out of it please. He doesn't know the consequences of anything. This isn't a fucking game. He has no diplomacy at all.

(1,129 posts)Bannon knows the only unquestionably credible war will be one started by someone other than 45....
Bannon will convince 45/ crew to engage in acts which Bannon knows will eventually be responded to by military action .....
Example:
45 berates NK "bad behavior" via Twitter
T-Rexxon follows up with range of potential punishments for NK if this "bad behavior" does not stop immediately
News article reports that THAAD defensive system will be completely in place (to protect S Korea / Japan) by summer 2017......
Basically, telling NK it has a 60+/- day window of "maximum potential success" for anything they wish to launch.
So 2 very public jabs in quick succession
followed by the timely introduction of info intended to make NK feel a sense of urgency to react ....
Equals Bannon's recipe for a war w/ credibility

(4,831 posts)What general is going to talk him out of that? NK's response, maybe against Soul, SK, would be all it took to get things going.
Doesn't even have to be nuclear.
I can see the headlines now, as Trump gets everyone stirred up, just like W. Bush and Iraq.
Clinton got away with his cruise attack on the aspirin factory because the middle east is slightly sane, at least compared to NK. And Clinton wasn't looking for an escalation. You can be sure Trump would like nothing more than a full fledged war. He's out of the action because bone spurs, so he doesn't give a fuck.

(2,955 posts)Iraq was about as manufactured as a war can get. Afghanistan was easy to go for after 9-11, but Iraq was far more calculated by the puppet masters. In the end it worked perfect for them. Made a bunch of money for the MIC, temporarily united the nation and destabilized the ME leaving the door open for future military involvement.
