"An estimated 225 million women in the world who want to avoid pregnancy lack access to safe and reliable contraceptives. But President Donald Trump appointed two delegates to the 61st Session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women this week who believe birth control access is antithetical to the values and needs of women worldwide.
"The State Department announced on Monday that it is sending Lisa Correnti, the executive vice president of the Center for Family and Human Rights, to the most important annual meeting on womens issues at the United Nations.
Her organization has been designated a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center. She and the other delegate, Grace Melton, a conservative activist with the Heritage Foundation, have both criticized feminists for promoting contraception use, LGBT anti-discrimination efforts and safe abortion access, according to research by the progressive group American Bridge.
"Correnti is a longtime anti-abortion activist who has argued that gay parenting is harmful to children. Her organization refers to family planning and contraception as population control and has actively lobbied against it. "
The Christofascists have an ally in Trump. This kind of thing is only going to get worse. How can anyone be against birth control in 3rd world countries? Or anywhere else for that matter. Religious fanatics will be the death of this planet.

They are mad at the puritanical hypocrites combined with flashy antics.
Think Elmer Gantry.

(101,321 posts)Some conservatives are just complacent about women's rights, but Trump really does see women as second class citizens, there for men like him to use. So he's only too happy to give influence to some raging fundamentalist out to hurt her own gender because she's gullible enough to believe the worst possible reading of ancient books written by patriarchal men.
He'll also enjoy this because it's the United Nations. He despises it, and the worst of his followers think it's a Satanic conspiracy, so sending idiots to go and cause chaos in it and stop anything constructive being done is his idea of good leadership.

(51,076 posts)I don't live in their skin. No sex for most of ones life, what the hell kind of a life would that be? I'm a guy so I've no reason to worry about pregnancy but all my sisters, wife, friends all I'm sure use something besides keeping a nickel between their knees bullshit. Leave the women alone and let them decide if they want to have children or not. Most every one of these old bastards who don't want a woman to have access to birth control will get it on with any woman who'll drop their drawers. Am I not right?
I know this article is about women going and these two are just as bad. If the truth was known they probably have birth control just use some passage they've found in the holey book that gives them and them alone the right.
Anyways I hope I'm not being out of line when I type this. If I am my apologies
Peace
