I want to post simple comments in alt right forums like the following:
Obamacare is the same as The Affordable Care Act.
Social Security is funded by our federal tax dollars.
Medicare is funded by our federal tax dollars.
Medicaid is funded by our federal tax dollars.
I'd like your help in the following ways.
- Suggest alt right forums. Or, better yet, forums where people who are not hard core Trump voters might go.
- Suggest web sites I could reference right beneath my message. I'm looking for "just the facts" web sites. I don't want to push a liberal agenda because I want to maximize the possibility that some people might read them.
- What have I overlooked?
- Never mind telling me it won't do any good. If it causes 1 or 2 people to think, then they might talk, and those people might talk.... Anyway, I'm going to do it.

(10,437 posts)your effort would be better served in helping retake congress in 2018 and working with local democratic organizations with fund raising and registering voters..

(135,425 posts)I'd say go to one of the better known wingnut ones with a message/reply board and ask there--simply ask where are the best sites to get the "real" news (LOL) not the FAKE news that the "lamestream media" puts out.
You'll probably get some helpful replies and you can go from there.
Good luck. I've found it's difficult to fix stupid, but kudos for trying.

(7,011 posts)Or Barack Obama signed the ACA into law. That's why the GOP called it Obamacare. Because they hate him and think you do, too.
Here is what Barack Obama's Healthcare law actually does, and what the GOP is trying to take away...
Then add link.

Those aren't alt-right, but they are places where the obnoxiousness of conservative axe-grinders tended to chase off liberal commenters long ago. They may be ripe for a low-key return.

(13,912 posts)I hang out on a few of "those" websites.. aka keep your friends close and your enemy's closer"
Some vile shit over there, even the "moderated" ones.. Any whiff of a new person not carrying the party line will be ostracized and then banned by the site owner.. Usually only a few posts and you are gone. Any attemp to log on with a new user name is stopped by your tell tale ip address and your dumped again..
Like others have said, work local to get your candidate voted in and stop what these assholes are doing..
Just my opinion. YMMV

(42,862 posts)... from the looks of things, you've got all the angles covered. You haven't overlooked anything and I'm sure you'll do a bang-up job, if being a troll is what you really want to do.
But, why do this? Of course, your time is yours to do with as you see fit... and I suppose there's some entertainment value. But if the goal is to "make a difference", this seems to be an ineffective way. Aren't there more productive things that you could be doing instead? It seems like with the same (or less) effort you'd be able to reach-out and educate MORE people who are more receptive to your message.
Have fun storming the castle.

(19,240 posts)Think of your audience. What do they want? What do they believe? They do not believe in facts or expert opinions. They believe what they feel. And the way to get them to feel is to put a human face on the story. Because the left brain is all about reason and logic and it can run illogical circles around facts. But the right brain--the facial recognition brain---goes straight to the emotions, and face it---the Make America White Again crowd is in the mess they are in right now because they vote with their right brains, not their left brains.
If you want to get through to Trump's base, you need to be willing to pretend to be someone you are not. Except you have to know in your heart that you are not pretending, because we are all in this together, meaning your neighbor's pain is your pain. So, feel the pain of the person you want to appear to be online. Saturate yourself in it. Then, give that person (who may not feel empowered to speak) a voice. You are not lying. You are telling a bigger truth.
That's how you reach 1 or 2 folks. Aim straight for the heart.

(13,912 posts)What if they have no heart??? The one's I've met only care about them and theirs.. not anyone else.. It's the us against them mentality..
"I'm right, your wrong and I'm willing to do what is "necessary" if you don't do what I say"..

(11,843 posts)They are federal taxes, but most people think income taxes when one says federal taxes. And the GOP loves people to think Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid are linked to income taxes.
LAS14
(13,783 posts)... (correctly) that they are funded by federal taxes even if people should mistakenly think its from the IRS?
Two of you have pointed this out. But I'm not sure how/if I should change what I say. Suggestions?
Thor_MN
(11,843 posts)The right wants to kill Social Security and Medicaid/Medicare. The right often links them to the deficit, when they have nothing to do with the federal spending that is tied to the deficit. They want to play defense spending against the social programs when they are funded by completely separate systems. Adding fuel to the right's (incorrect) argument that income taxes are high because of Social Security and Medicaid/Medicare spending is as you put it, harm.
When you are trying to counter an argument, don't settle for the opponent's framing of the issue.
LAS14
(13,783 posts)... Social Security comes from the federal government, but does not contribute to the deficit.
And Medicare and Medicaid, likewise. I'm wanting to target those people who LIKE these social programs but think they can simultaneously dis government social programs.

(839 posts)it will not really help, if you are caught and have your ip blocked right off the bat , so i suggests reading their forum first and find some common ground (is there even?) and lurk for a few months or so.
i'd start with cats or dogs, everyone loves either cats or dogs right?
freerepublic.com <- they all want ryan care to fail, so that's a common ground there.

(24,324 posts)as many people think of tax dollars.
They are funded by a separate Tax-- F I C A--
"Federal Insurance Contributions Act (FICA) tax ... is a United States federal payroll (or employment) tax imposed on both employees and employers to fund Social Security and Medicarefederal programs that provide benefits for retirees, disabled people, and children of deceased workers."

(32,645 posts)I used to be on there for years but last year it got taken over by rude abusive Russian troll-bots. (nasty conservatives that are all robo-posting)
All the nice people left it a year ago. The robo-posting bots put up compliments for Trump, and hateful insults about the "libtards." If you go there you'll get tired of it very quickly. I'm sure they're Russian because Yahoo was hacked by the Russians even before Trump ran for the Presidency.
Another place I used to post regularly, and don't any more, is the comments section on Rolling Stone magazine, especially in the Politics section. Again you'll see that all the liberals have been chased away by the nasty abusive Russian troll-bots that post garbage on there 24-7.
The same thing is happening on our local newspaper, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. The conservative troll-bots have tried to take over here too, but enough people are complaining that they might get kicked out. (I hope)
I wouldn't be surprised to find out that robo-posting troll-bots are invading every publication that has a free comments section.
Good luck
