We want [our residents] to stay on top of current events, pop culture, whats going on in the world, explained Tracy Willis, head of business development for Village Concepts.
So the seniors decamped at Velas sleekly designed storefront on First Avenue South, between Safeco Field and the global headquarters of Starbucks.
For Vela staff members, it was a chance to get to know some great potential customers: seniors 65 and older. A recent study in the journal Addiction found that overall cannabis use by baby boomers increased 58% from 2006 to 2013. Researchers found that cannabis use among boomers peaked between ages 50 to 64. Adults 65 and older had a significantly lower prevalence of cannabis use than those in the younger group, but consumption by those in that older age cohort increased by 250% during that same time period. So adults in late middle age tended to consume more cannabis than those of retirement agebut that seems to be quickly changing.

(146,317 posts)I was a daily smoker of weed back in the late 60s and early 70s. I think it's important for people to use subtraction when talking about us oldsters, so they'll understand better the time frames. Every year, the ranks of retired people over 65 is increased by people like me, who were young during those times. We protested the Vietnam war, were activists during the civil rights movement, and are not among the conservatives people usually think of when thinking about older Americans. Subtraction is good, and most of us can still use that arithmetic skill.
I don't do that any longer, but I don't mind if you do.

(7,432 posts)AG Sessions would still have us believe in "Reefer Madness", the movie of which appears to be where Sessions was educated on the evils of pot. But there's no need for rational thinking if you're an attorney general. You have the power to realize your own fantasies, so you just go for it, in spite of the fact that you're making the lives of millions miserable. This rather uniquely defines the parameters of "public service", eh?

(24,736 posts)THANK God!
Pot smoker in my youth. Returned to it in later middle age when it became available through friends. Now that it is legal, we have frequented stores here and regularly imbibe, though not copiously.
Maybe it is not optimal, healthwise. But I am pretty together...earned a ground breaking limited legal license here (1st of its kind anywhere, aimed at helping low income folks afford licensed legal help in divorces. I'm the 2nd one licensed) at age 60. I have 3 part time gigs. Took up downhill skiing at age 55. The only meds I'm on are 10 mg lisinipril daily. No surgeries ever, etc. 36 year marriage. One happy adult child who reveres her dad and me.
If not for pot I would need something like paxil, which I was once prescribed. Why should I be funneled into buying from big pharma when mother earth can provide all I need!
Pretty funny going into pot stores. I always feel a bit uncomfortable...like I'm in a porn shop!
Y'all come visit and do some marijuana tourism!
