These people need to be fired and retired without benefits, if not prosecuted and jailed.

(365 posts)I was married to a Finn for 20 yrs. The Finns are a beautiful mix of Scandinavian, Eastern European and Sami heritage. The Finnish language is over 4000 yrs old and is most closely related to Hungarian. These Fox morons boil my blood. What are they talking about? This bullshit narrative of homogenous societies is demonstrably false and dangerous. I am sure most of the Finns I know would not be happy to be used as drumpf reich propaganda.

(18,124 posts)bullshit makes my blood boil. That mentality is just the reason why we now have all this racial strife.

(12,448 posts)I was startled when I heard Finnish spoken; although I couldn't understand it, there were some words that were similar and it SOUNDED like Hungarian.
The truth is, Europe is a mix of various peoples; there's some Middle Eastern in that mix also. The Celts are thought to be originally from approximately what is now the Czech Republic and Slovania. I could go on and on, but BTW, the mix didn't included different species!

(51,129 posts)Under the imminent lawless action test, speech is not protected by the First Amendment if the speaker intends to incite a violation of the law that is both imminent and likely. While the precise meaning of "imminent" may be ambiguous, cases have be brought. If a network has this kind of speech and repeats it often enough, they should be held to account for incitement of racial violence.
tritsofme
(17,379 posts)This incident clearly does not meet the very high standard for incitement.
Speech like this should be combatted and shamed by society, not prosecuted by government censors.
Warren DeMontague
(80,708 posts)It's amazing to me, that even with an authoritarian blowhard in the WH disrespecting both the constitution and the press, some people here still cling to the fantasy that "good" censorship will get rid of the things they don't like, whether that is sex scenes on HBO or the inane gruntings of bigots.
What they don't understand is, if the 1A goes, it's going to be the speech of dissidents that gets quashed first.
Warren DeMontague
(80,708 posts)Every time we have one of these threads, someone shows up with a variation on "saying something horribly racist/bigoted/hateful" or "saying something that might make someone else mad" is either "incitement", "fighting words", or "shouting fire in a crowded theater"
There are people here who think the government should censor everything from the sports illustrated swimsuit issue, to "blasphemy", on the grounds that the speech might upset someone.
Again, that's not how the 1st Amendment works.
You seem to feel differently, though.. so let me ask you- when is the last time someone was succesfully prosecuted in the US for making a statement - stupid and hateful, to be sure - under "incitement"?
Warren DeMontague
(80,708 posts)There seems to be a lot of misunderstanding of how the 1st Amendment works.

(81,515 posts)On July 8, 2009, Kilmeade and two co-hosts were discussing a study that, based on research done in Finland and Sweden, showed people who stay married are less likely to suffer from Alzheimer's disease. Kilmeade commented, "[In the United States] we keep marrying other species and other ethnics. . . ." Ignoring attempts by co-host Gretchen Carlson (who is of Swedish descent) to interrupt him, he added, "See, the problem is the Swedes have pure genes. Because they marry other Swedes . . . Finns marry other Finns, so they have a pure society. In America we marry everybody, we marry Italians and Irish."[13]
On July 20, 2009, Kilmeade apologized for his remarks, saying, "I made comments that were offensive to many people. That was not my intention, and looking back at those comments I realize they were inappropriate. For that I sincerely apologize. America [is a] huge melting pot, and that is what makes us such a great country. . . ."[14]
