The 2020 Democratic Presidential nominee should be a governor.

The last 3 out of 5 living ex Presidents were Governors. Carter,Clinton, and Bush-43.
Jay Inslee-WA would be a viable candidate. He will have 8 years service of Governor in 2020 and 18 non consecutive years of service in the US House. He is responsible for blocking Trump's Travel Ban.

Obama-D had less than 4 years service in the US Senate, McCain-R has 22 years.
One of the newly elected US Senators could be a viable candidate. Chris Van Hollen-MD, Van Hollen has more experience than Obama had when he ran in 2008. Van Hollen served in the MD state house from 1991 to 1995, MD State senate from 1995 to 2003, US House from 2003 to 2017, and US Senate since 2017. Obama served 8 years in the IL State Senate-1997 to 2005 and 4 years in the US Senate-2005 to 2009 before getting elected President.
