“Republicans approve of the American farmer, but they are willing to help him go broke. They stand four-square for the American home--but not for housing. They are strong for labor--but they are stronger for restricting labor's rights. They favor minimum wage--the smaller the minimum wage the better. They endorse educational opportunity for all--but they won't spend money for teachers or for schools. They think modern medical care and hospitals are fine--for people who can afford them. They consider electrical power a great blessing--but only when the private power companies get their rake-off. They think American standard of living is a fine thing--so long as it doesn't spread to all the people. And they admire of Government of the United States so much that they would like to buy it.”

I do not know about you - but to me the old Truman sounds like a social-democrat to me - a rather left leaning social-democrat too...

Even though he was never in love with communists, or socialism in general.

And I put the qoutes on my facebook profile every now and then.

we had a lot more social Democrats than we do today. Even with this present "progressive" Administration, they are reluctant to ask for taxes to pay for the programs we need. And taxcuts seem to be the preferred stimulus for getting our economy going again? When we talk about a top tax rate of 39% and not raising taxes on those making less than $250K or, in some cases, $1M per year, we have to question if we have any social philosophy left?

I think it is something that everyone have to work with today - the big issues today is more complex than it was 60 or 70 year ago.

And the issue of taxes is something that everyone have to fight with as the right in most country, have being rather good at playing the card about taxes.. And it looks like the progressives - or the left-leanings have trouble explaining why we need taxes to pay for, or the whole idea of public health care for everyone - this is something we have to fight for even in our corner of the world I fear....

The irony of it, is that when US was at the greatest, US also had a rather high tax bracket - specially for the ones with a lot of money in the bank - and it was not like anyone was complaining when US was using billions of dollar on the competition to be the first coming to the moon....

but after I looked at it more closely...the exact finger position and hair on the arms look the same to me.

Still good, though.
