Because he would still hold the headlines, COMPLAINING ABOUT HOW UNFAIR IT WAS, HOW HARD IT WAS, WHY WOULD ANYONE WANT TO BE PRESIDENT.
And worst of all, his hardcore followers would be just as emboldened.
He shouldn't be able to save face no matter what.
But I have a feeling this is the likely outcome because above all, his reputation is most important to him.

(5,191 posts)Nixon got pardoned by Ford, in Iran/Contra people got light slaps on the wrists and it was swept under the rug, and the Bush/Cheney canal were never held accountable.
Enough: investigate and punish all, including Benedict Donald to the fullest or the next group will be even more emboldened.

(18,837 posts)I realized this last night when I caught the end of the Rachel Maddow show and she pointed out the obvious:
In the nor-so-distant past, MANY heads would have rolled for the lies and corruption in the Trump "administration" that are a matter of public record, but one by one, these people just keep right on a-walkin'.
Her statement was something like "This may all be true, or worse, and Trump could go down, or not..."
I don't think you'll see one damned hair of Trump's hairpiece ruffled between now and 2018. If we take back the House and Senate, we're looking at a different matter. And unless Trump keeps poking the Freedom Caucus and telling people to watch Fox because they're roasting some REPUBLICAN who displeased him, AS LONG AS people like Paul Ryan and the rest think they can make it through 2018 unscathed, and with their majority and agendas intact, the Republicans aren't going to do one goddamned thing about Trump, and he most certainly will not resign.
It would be nice if I'm wrong on this, but...once again, alluding to the wrap up of Maddow's show last night...based on what is happening right now, what shred of evidence do we have...with Nunes tap-dancing, with Ryan saying "I don't WANT him to work with Democrats"...that Trump would POSSIBLY resign? He THINKS he is shaping public perception of his "reputation."

(70,740 posts)* He is basically a PALIN bomb thrower, and his holding the headlines is a small price for having him *gone*. It took forever but even PALIN has lost the headlines.
* His getting out, or kicked out, wouldn't save him any face.
* "his reputation is most important to him" - His reputation consists of mobster-ism, a hollow core, history of failures, bullying and bluster signifying nothing, treating *everybody* horribly except for the billionaires he loves. I don't know what "reputation" he has that would worth something to a normal human.
As for "his hardcore followers would be just as emboldened" - I agree, but they will be reduced to being embittered and marginalized.
Just respectfully kibitzing here.
