Ted Lieu: No vote on Gorsuch or other Trump nominees until we know whether presidency is legitimate

Ted Lieu: No vote on Gorsuch or other Trump nominees until we know whether presidency is legitimate

Democratic U.S. Rep. Ted Lieu (CA) lit into President Donald Trump on Sunday, questioning the legitimacy of his presidency and calling for a halt on the nomination of Supreme Court hopeful Neil Gorsuch.

In a discussion with MSNBC Live anchor Richard Lui, Lieu said that House Intelligence Committee Chairman Rep. Devin Nunes needs to step down and pointed out that Pres. Trump can declassify the intelligence documents that the committee is viewing at any time.

“The president himself can declassify these documents,” Lieu said. “If Trump has nothing to hide he can show the American people what’s going on.”

He slammed Nunes’ “ridiculous political stunt” of pretending to brief the White House on documents the White House gave him the day before.

“Chairman Nunes needs to resign. This entire political stunt was intended to mislead the American people,” said Lieu.

The question of Russian interference in the 2016 election, Lieu said, calls into question the legitimacy of the Trump presidency.

“Let’s take a step back and consider how shocking it is that the president’s associates and maybe the president himself is under investigation by the FBI for possible collusion with Russia,” Lieu said. “At stake is the legitimacy of the Trump administration. There needs to be a pause of what’s going on. Congress should not be voting on Supreme Court and lifetime appointments or on major tax reform.”

On Sunday, Trump tweeted that the House and Senate Intelligence investigation into his ties to Russia are pointless and that former Pres. Obama’s alleged surveillance of Trump Towers is the real scandal.

Lieu responded by reiterating that the federal government only surveils two kinds of people, foreign agents and criminals.

“Which is it, Mr. President,” he asked.

Good on Ted Lieu for saying what needs to be said and speaking the truth...unfortunately, few will be so honest and direct and especially mentioning the elephant in the room: Comrade Trumpsky's legitimacy. His legitimacy will only become a basis when there is more investigation and criminal charges that come from the Russian hacking, meddling and collusion with Trump Campaign is revealed and comes public and there are indictments. But the reality is that we do have an illegitimate and dangerous criminal in charge of the White House and no one in Congress or Senate should aid and help this criminal.

Kudo's a-many to Lieu for speaking plain and loud. The trouble is, where's the rest of the Democrats with their outrage??? EVERY Joe Jack and Jane on the left should be outwardly LIVID that we're playing this charade as tho we have an awry but legitimate administration to try and deal with. Hell, I've got slugs in the garden that have more spine!

We need a clean and clear RESET. We sure to hell don't need Father Pence or weenie-mobile Ryan. What we DO need is someone to take the narrative over and call treason, treason - call con men, con men - call a psychopath just that and get that god damned football away from him before he lights the fuse of WW3!

As much as I would like to see all of them gone and if not that, at least the Dems standing up for us. However, if 45 goes Pence comes in and from what I've read it was Pence who steered Gorsuch in 45's direction, which makes a lot of sense.

that Pence is dirty too and he's purged along with the rest of the diseased WH staff. Pence is scarier that Dump because he actually believes the crap he espouses. Dump believes whatever he's told in the last 5 minutes. Ryan - if we end up stuck with him, has lost a lot of political capital with the failure of ChumpCare. He might be rendered impotent. Fingers crossed! It might be a pipe dream but it keeps me going.

FROM: Now trump is cyber lynching President Obama in ALL CAPS.

Does he really think he can get away with blaming the black guy to weasel out of his predicament?

Does he really project that much, thinking America is that racist?

I'm reminded of a small child, caught in the act and impulsively accusing someone else. However, this is clearly a strategy to politicize a criminal inquiry and borders on a crime itself, obstruction of justice. It certainly is abuse of power to falsely accuse someone of a felony, and that itself is criminal conduct of false accusation. Under law words written which impute to another the commission of a crime are known as 'per se slander' and do not required proof of damages, a slam-dunk civil action. The criminal offence of making false allegations is covered under the common law offence of perverting the course of public justice. But hey, this small child with tapping tiny fingers seems to think he is the law of the land now.

If I recall correctly, the small child who cries "so-and-so did it" doesn't fair well at the end of the day. Stopbullying.gov reports that bullies often have trouble controlling their emotions and impulses and find it hard to follow rules. You don't suppose someone childish wasn't following the rules?

These guys like I been saying are the Dems best chance for the Presidency! Guys Like Lieu, Schiff, Castros, Kennedy. The bench in the Congress is deep, young, & full of progressive energy!

Much more than we have in the Senate or Governors.

McConnell said on MTP that Gorsuch WILL be confirmed. They're digging their heels in.

They're fairly safe on changing the rules. The next Justice who may not last till next election is Ginsburg. In which case the Repubs need only a simple majority (again).

If no justice leaves before the next election, then the Dems have a chance of naming the next Justice with a simple majority, using the Repub rules. But that's a long shot.

Sounds like the Senate is going to go for a simple majority.
