____ Donald Trump, whose budget proposal would slash the Department of the Interior budget by $1.6 billion, would like to be congratulated for donating his first quarter presidential salary of $78,333 to the National Park Service.
This is a day the president just donated a significant amount of money of his salary to the federal government. So respectfully, its at what point does he do enough? Spicer said during Mondays briefing. I think to be able to say he isnt taking a salary, hes stepped down from his business, hes walked away from a lot. I think at some point hes done quite a bit in terms of making a donation to the government.
Trump hasnt stepped down from his business in any meaningful way. He has handed day-to-day management of his vast empire to his sons; however, profits from the business are funneled into a revocable trust that he can access at any time. Eric Trump, one of his fathers trustees and managers of his business, told Forbes that he might give his father profitability reports as often as every quarter, directly contradicting any illusion of separation...
Trumps budget calls for a punishing 12 percent cut to the department, which manages the United States public lands. It would eliminate some of the departments programs altogether, including the $13.2 million National Wildlife Refuge Fund and the $20 million funding for the nations 49 National Heritage Areas. It would also decrease funding for land acquisition such as land that would be added to the nations national parks, and then stewarded by the NPS by $120 million.

(52,206 posts)one might expect a man of donnie's claimed wealth to give far more than that to charity.
so for all we know, he's actually giving less to charity now that he's president.
let's see those tax returns to know for sure, eh, donnie?

(24,259 posts)making $$$ off of being president. Just at his clubs alone rich people are willing to pay more $$ for membership at HIS golf clubs for the chance to rub elbows with 'the president', they'll also pay more $$ for meals, Trump brand water there, greens fees, etc there too I'm fairly sure.
The Trump family brand will end up profiting in money, influence and other perks big time from his time as president. He's NOT a truly generous nor kind person he just likes to look like he is because it improves HIS brand AND... a donation to the National Park Service is tax deductible.
This doesn't even get into the fact that he wants to make deep cuts to the NPS (I suspect even worse is coming) or how much all of his friggin weekend trips to his private clubs, his kids jet setting and Melania and Barron staying in Trump Tower is costing the US tax payers.
Pfft! People who still support this jerk are fools and suckers for buying what this lying manipulative snake oil salesman has been, is and will continue to be selling.

(19,199 posts)If Trump actually donated anything at all, it's still an insult to both the intelligence and professionalism of the Park Service.

(9,350 posts)Sean Spicer needs to stop trying to make Donald Trump out to be some sort of saint. Nobody forced Trump to run for President. Second, it is not like he was forced to sell his businesses. So, every day, week, month, and years that he is President he is still making money, if his businesses are in fact profitable. From what his son's are saying, his businesses have never been hotter. So, where is the sacrifice? Being President is like a vacation for him.
Maybe some, or all of what is being reported about him is false, but if it is not he is getting far more from the taxpayers than he is giving. He gets a profitable business that he does not have to run. He barely had to show up for work. It has been said that he stops working at the White House at 6 o'clock p.m. How many CEOs and/or business owners get to leave work at 6 o'clock? Okay, so, bankers have better hours. So, our President, who claims to not be taking a salary has bankers' hours. In addition, this man has spent most of his time as President golfing. He spends about four hours every weekend playing golf. Furthermore, he has traveled to Florida almost every week since he has been in office. That has cost American taxpayers $12 million. Beyond that it has been said that it is costing New York taxpayers $1 million a day to pay for security for Melania and Barron Trump to continue to say at New York's Trump Tower.
Please, give me a break. The guy has given $78,333 back to the American government while acting as if he is having his teeth pulled. It has possibly cost New York and the federal government a combined $52 million to provide travel for and security for just Trump, Melania, and Barron in just the first three months of his presidency. That does not even get into the cost of providing protection for all of Trump's children including his sons who go on business trips at taxpayer expense. Can you imagine how Republicans would have reacted if President Obama would have had five kids with three different women and expected the federal government to provide protection for all five of those kids?
As far as I know John F. Kennedy also refused to take a government salary when he was President. Did Kennedy make this much of a big deal about not taking a salary?
Donald Trump owns a car (Rolls-Royce Phantom) that has a starting price ($417,000) that is higher than his presidential salary ($400,000). He has other cars that cost well over $100,000. Giving up his presidential salary is not a big deal, or a big pain for him.
