WATCH: Bernie Sanders denounces Neil Gorsuch as too extreme for court in fiery Senate floor speech

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) denounced Neil Gorsuch’s views as too far outside the mainstream to back him for the U.S. Supreme Court.

“I cannot support a man with his views for a lifetime seat on the Supreme Court,” Sanders said on the Senate floor. “The Supreme Court is the most important judicial body in this country. The decisions that it reaches, even on a 5-4 vote, have a profound impact on all Americans, on our environment and on our way of life.

He isn't too far outside of the mainstream. As far as judges across the country, he might be middle right at most. Some will cheer this. Others will see it as yelling at walls.

I'm against Gorsuch on grounds of principle. They denied the electorate the ability to have their constitutionally elected President put someone forward followed by advise and consent by the senate. I won't get over that.

Still, mainstream is not a solid argument.

Gorsuch is a sociopathic monster with a typical rightwing veneer
of looking like a businessman.

He will always rule in favor of the rich and corporate and against
the best interests of vulnerable groups, meaning anyone or group
that is not white, male, and rich.

It's hard to push the "Gorsuch is evil incarnate" meme when so many who say it supported him when he got the 10th circuit nomination.

you're right.

The simple fact is, though, the judge taking that position on the court should be named Merrick Garland. Period, full stop.

Or maybe not so much. Just maybe you've always had this inside you. There were glimmerings of this throughout your previous career(s). But possibly we just didn't see it.

However, I for one, when you announced your candidacy for the US Senate on Air America, was both sad that you were going to have to go off the air, but were overjoyed about your decision.

You are an honor to both your profession as US Senator as well as your avocation of humorist. Maybe it takes both to be at the cutting edge. And Senator Franken, you surely are.

And an R& for Bernie, too.
