(612 posts)I mean no disrespect to anyone, but this is my analysis. - Science tells us HOW things happen. The role of religion is to tell us WHY things happen. Science examines evidence, and generates theories, which lead to verifiable and reliable conclusions. Religion utilizes narratives and poetry to convey meaning. I'm always amazed to find people who are forced to reject science because of their inability to make this distinction.
The Bible is not a science book. It is an interpretation of reality which is open to the existence of God and God's intervention in history. Science exists independently of the concept of God, and relies on observable, verifiable information, and those who reject it on religious grounds are - in my estimation - abdicating their ability to synthesize two distinct, but complementary perceptions of reality.
I firmly believe that God exists, but that God must be the source of all truth - scientific and religious. And - although it's extraneous to this specific subject - I will add that I have sincere respect for those who don't believe in God. My personal belief is unaffected by those who agree or disagree with my religious beliefs. Everyone is free to come to his or her own conclusions about reality, the world and meaning.

I just don't get it. If you believe in a Creator then denying science is denying the magnificence of that Creation.
