Where Nobody Wants to Go: Trump, the GOP Congress and the Supreme Court - The Nation's Mental Health

It's time for this topic to stop being off limits. We all know the despair, despondency, depression, fear, anger and hopelessness the Trump presidency, the GOP control of Congress and the extreme right's soon to gain control of the Supreme Court has caused many Americans. A number of articles have appeared referring to an increase in issues by the patients of mental health professionals directly related to the 2016 election. There needs to be a serious study of this issue to see how the current political situation is affecting the mental health of the nation, how many lives is it costing, including suicides. It's time to stop hiding from or whispering about this (in my opinion) hidden threat to the mental health of the nation. How can people deal with this important mental health issue, how are people dealing with it?

..studies regarding any increased levels of domestic abuse esp amongst Trump supporting families. But seriously my 14 yr old grand dtr threatened to hurt herself right after trump won.

She knew the bullying in the schools would elevate and we live is Washington State FFS...can you imagine what it must be like in for kids in some of the red ...really red...states. My heart breaks for them.

They don't understand how our our democracy could allow such results. I've been told they have bouts of depression and appear to have become more cynical about the nation, about our entire system. Some have said they have doubts about their futures. I find this not only depressing, but alarming. Our children are are future, they are the nation's future. We really need to look at this issue, especially how to help children cope.

About the responsibilities of the 3 branches of government How laws are made in congress and how the president executes them and the Supreme Court makes sure the laws are constitutional. I almost got choked up reading this knowing our government is corrupted and broken by an uninformed electorate, voter suppression and a corporate takeover of our country. The questions I got after we went over this were heartbreaking. These 9 and 10 year old knew our government is broken. At PE they were joking about tearing a wall in the yard because we don't need walls only bridges.
