Trump's Syria Strike Looks Staged

Last edited Fri Apr 7, 2017, 03:09 AM - Edit history (2)

Matt Pearce? @mattdpearce
ABC News: Eyewitness says Syrian officials evacuated personnel and moved equipment ahead of the strike.

from ABC:

Syrian military officials appeared to anticipate Thursday's night raid on Syria's Shayrat airbase, evacuating personnel and moving equipment ahead of the strike, according to an eyewitness to the strike.

Dozens of Tomahawk missiles struck the airbase near Homs damaging runways, towers and traffic control buildings, a local resident and human rights activist living near the airbase told ABC News via an interpreter.

...we alerted Russia about the strike and they informed Syria?

What did we actually destroy with *59 Tomahawk missiles at $1.5 million apiece?

Or inert practice missiles. Apparently not even the runways were damaged, sounds to me like the missiles just bounced off. The idea that a practice missile crashed during a test implies that they can be safely landed. We might even be getting them back to reuse.

But why would one be driving a Tomahawk through NYC if not to return it??

Is That a Tomahawk Missile on Your Flatbed or Are You ... - Gothamist

We don't know where to begin, so let's just put it out there: WCBS 880 reports that, yes, a flatbed truck carrying a Tomahawk missile did break down and get rear-ended by another vehicle - causing the missile to fall on I-95 near the Bronx. The NYPD confirmed that there was an "inert ordinance," and the FDNY confirmed it was a Tomahawk missile. WCBS 880 adds this: "It is important to emphasize that the missile was not armed." But that takes the fun out of the hysteria!
The missile was on its way to Virginia. We guess missiles need to be transported somehow....

Reports are that they all flew there at different times and circled until all were there, then struck in unison. The closest way I have of picturing it is Gaga's Superbowl show with the drones creating effects.

Trump should get an Oscar for this, the acting was well done, although the plot was both transparent and predictable.

The sequel, "21st century Riechstag Fire" is going to be the big one. I wonder when the release date for that one will be?

and all headlines about the Trump-Russia connection, the Nunes scandal, and McConnell stealing a SCOTUS seat for about two weeks.

Trump's poll numbers will go up, now that he's a 'man of action,' like Bush Jr., and Syria will fix the runway with five bags of ready-mix concrete before Monday.

(I'm not saying the gas attack wasn't real or horrific. But they're very selective about what they choose as a casus belli. Syria has made a half a dozen gas attacks since Trump took office. It's just that they used chlorine gas, and there were no pictures on the news. It wouldn't surprise me if Putin talked Assad into doing this, then suggested that Trump make a show of retaliating, so that Russia could make a show of backing down from defending Assad, and thus dispel rumors that Trump and Putin are too cozy.)

in the slightest. In fact, if you're at all correct, this could turn out to be a really stupid mistake, like Rump's drawing the investigation into the WH by claiming Obama tapped him.

It also won't help Rump with his trumpsters as the fat and bone his administration cuts into turns out to be theirs.

If true, very interesting...

The right is deploying all kinds of justifications, including Rump as instrument of god's vengeance against evil AND Hillary debate statement that we should take out all Assad's runways so he can't bomb civilians.

Then there's this point:

This attack wouldn't substantially impede Russia's actions even if the runway were damaged.

Note the rest also. (This is Times of Israel quoting RT.)

“According to preliminary information, nine Syrian airplanes were destroyed,” its correspondent said in a report from the base, broadcast hours after the strike at 0040 GMT Friday.

Stores with ammunition and fuel were also targeted, he said, adding that a fire and some explosions were ongoing.

“But not all equipment has been destroyed, there is some that was not impacted by the strike,” the correspondent said. “The landing strip… is practically not impacted,” he added. Footage showed the runway intact but covered in debris, as well as two planes sitting in concrete hangars.

The aircraft were apparently not heavily damaged while some other hangars were charred and surrounded by rubble.
