Yeah, I admit it. I'm a little surprised that Trump went through with his airstrikes. Now, I figured if he did actually do anything, it would be something like this--lob a few missiles into the Syrian desert and claim that he "did something." And I still think this will pretty much be it in terms of "doing something."
But the fact that Trump "did something" does admittedly go against the whole "America First" deal he's been so adamant about defining himself as being for. And on the surface, it flies in the face of Russia, so there's the perception Trump's like an angry teenager, lashing out against his parents just to assert himself as his own man.
But God help me, I don't trust him. I can never trust him. Nothing in the man's nature could ever lead me to believe he's actually capable of acting in anyone else's interest except his own, or that his actions are free of any type of self-serving agenda.
So last week, the Trump administration seemingly lets Assad off the hook. Assad carpes the diem and decides to gas a town. And voila, all of a sudden, Trump decides he actually does care about the suffering of the Syrian people, even though during the campaign he compared them to snakes who will attack us if we show compassion to them. Literally.
So Trump lobs his missiles, and look, now Russia's mad at him for doing that. So lookie here, America. Trump's not Putin's puppet after all! Except....well.....Trump actually told him he was going to shoot off some missiles before he went ahead and did it. But never mind that--Putin's mad! So no puppet! No puppet! You're the puppet! Pay no attention to the news coming out of the intelligence community about what happened last year!
So Putin and Trump get to grit their teeth against one another for a little bit. Of course, this will set the stage for a meeting down the road where they can, you know, talk things out, smooth it over, and--oh yeah--get their stories straight on other things.
Sorry, I still don't trust the man. Not one single bit.

(1,258 posts)He doesn't give a damn about the babies in this country. Whether his poll numbers go up or not he is still the same old POS..
Lets see how much he cares about the young, old, disabled, homeless, etc ..in this country when his cabinet members get started.
Is he still winning what about them job numbers. He is saving Americans for what? Who is ready to volunteer for his next invasion he won't have to worry about war over there he is starting wars over here in America..

(46,703 posts)It would have played out for them in one of two ways. Either the US did nothing, and Russia would know that we were too distracted to watch what was going on in their part of their world; or it would create a Wag the Dog for Trump. Now his domestic problems are wiped off the news. Win-win for Russia.
