By Paulina Firozi - 04/09/17 06:13 PM EDT
White House budget chief Mick Mulvaney will this week send a memo to federal agencies instructing them to prepare for future cuts to funding and staff, according to a new report.
The guidance letter, Axios reported on Sunday, was set forth by the executive order President Trump signed last month for reorganizing the executive branch.
The order calls to improve the efficiency, effectiveness, and accountability of the executive branch by directing the Director of the Office of Management and Budget to propose a plan to reorganize governmental functions and eliminate unnecessary agencies, components of agencies and agency programs.
The federal agencies will likely plan to lay off staff, eliminate programs and sell real estate, according to the report some agencies could shutter or consolidate.
Axios reported a final proposal of the federal-agency cuts could take until next year.

(6,916 posts)Most agencies are filled with risk-averse administrators. Usually the safest thing for their jobs is to do what they are told.
In this administration those same administrators need to resist - slow down responses, comply poorly, make mistakes. That's hard for most administrators.
Progressives would do well to contact those people at agencies and tell them how to resist effectively.

(10,017 posts)Curious what real estate is being talking about? I am sure there are plenty of underutilized government owned buildings and storage facilities that probably could/should be sold at a market rate. What Trump and many in the GOP want is privatization of prime governmentally owned real estate/land to be sold for far less than it is worth. Once this publicly owned "real estate" is gone, it is gone forever from the public.
Loss of public jobs and programs will be devastating immediately, but can be reversed in the future. Loss of Public Lands/real estate could very well be lost forever.
