MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Multiple sources have confirmed to WHNT News 19 that Governor Robert Bentley will resign today, the same day a House committee began impeachment hearings.

Earlier today, we reported Bentley’s office was in negotiations to set specific terms of him stepping down.

Kay Ivey is the state’s Lieutenant Governor and would be sworn in to replace Bentley.

There has been a whirlwind of activity about Gov. Bentley in the last several days. Friday, he stood on the steps of the Capitol and said he would not resign, but apologized for failing in his personal life...

Lawyers for Gov. Robert Bentley spent much of the day negotiating with prosecutors, and sources said the governor will step down this afternoon.

The governor was scheduled to meet with his staff before any announcement is made. According to the Associated Press, a person who has spoken to Bentley says the governor is in good spirits over the decision to step down.

Prosecutors with the Alabama Attorney General's office filed documents in Montgomery County Circuit Court, but the clerk would not immediately release them.

It is believed Bentley will plead guilty to lesser charges and resign to avoid stiffer penalties...

She bankrupted the pre-pay college tuition state program. Gave us a Rick Perry "Oops" excuse on how their investments didn't pan out - like investments sometimes don't do.

But the voters picked her for Lt. Gov. and now she is gonna be the Big Boss.

The Alabama Democratic Party is in such a shambles - nothing to bump, no advantage from Republican misery - just more Republicans lined up to take their place.

Just learning about her from this news feed. From their summary she's GOP/Conservative all the way. I am sorry. As a Texan, I understand living amongst omnipresent wingnuttery.

to return to politics but I could understand if he wants to avoid politics altogether.

If there is a strong Dem wave between now and the 2018 elections, maybe he will re-think.
Alabama is basically a Dem. free political nightmare.

I don't even know if he can vote to be honest. I liked him. Probably why Rove went after him. He held every office he tried to get.

Our Republican primaries allow crossover voting, so I'll proudly tell you I thought Bentley was "the best Republican" on the ballot, and voted for him in the primary!

Our Democrats Sparks and Griffith for governor were easily beaten, so the Republican primaries were the races that counted.

Hot damn - I was right!!!

Deep down, Bentley was alright. Six feet down!
