Scorpion Stings Man On United Flight

A creature that appeared to be a scorpion fell from an overhead bin and stung a man on a United Airlines flight, the company confirmed to CNBC on Thursday.

According to multiple reports, passenger Richard Bell was on a United flight from Houston to Calgary on Sunday, when the creature fell from an overhead bin and stung him.

United told CNBC the airline crew immediately consulted with a physician on the ground who provided guidance throughout the incident. The company said the man's injuries were non-life threatening.

"Medical personnel met the aircraft after it arrived in Calgary," United spokesman Charles Hobart told CNBC.

Hurts like Hell but generally do no lasting damage. We call 'em stangin' lizards. There are some around the world that are dangerous.

10. I would be freaking out if I was on a plane and a scorpion landed on my head then stung me.

but in the southwest US, tiny scorpions are common like house spiders. I think the story said this one was an inch long?

Scary, but no more harmful than a bee sting. (Which can be a big deal, I know.)

When you're in AZ they always tell you to shake your shoes out before putting them on, because scorpions like to hide in burrow-like holes. Likely this thing crawled out of someone's dirty laundry in a bag that was in the overhead and could have been there for weeks.

but in AZ, the small ones - they're certainly not tiny - are the most venomous, and they're not common indoors. I lived on the outer fringes of the Phoenix metro for 17 years before I saw my first one. But it's always good to shake out your shoes.

13. Not common up here in WA. Or in Canada either. I wouldn't know which ones are more dangerous

than others and would be creeped out.
