Florida Republican senator calls fellow senators the N-word and b*tch in racist rant

A Republican state senator from Miami used the n-word in a conversation with two black colleagues on Monday night—in addition to flung insults at his female colleague, including “f*cking asshole,” “bitch” and “girl,” the Miami Herald reports.

The incident occurred at Governors Club, a members-only social club located in Tallahassee. Sen. Frank Artiles, who serves Florida’s 40th district, told fellow Sens. Audrey Gibson and Perry Thurston that the Florida Senate president Joe Negron was able to secure his leadership role because “six n*ggers” elected him. The senator later insisted he’d used the slang term “niggas.”

“He said, ‘If it wasn’t for these six n*ggers,’” Gibson explained. According to Gibson, Artiles also referred to her as “this f*cking asshole” and “this bitch.”

Gibson said she left the conversation, at which point Thurston confronted Artiles.

“I said, ‘Dude, did you say ‘n*ggers?’” Thurston told the Herald. “‘No, I said ‘niggas,’” which is different in his mind.”

Thurston urged Artiles to apologize, even offering to accompany him to Gibson’s office the next morning. Artiles didn’t show up.

This is very troubling and disturbing, yet very important to have on the record.

I have expected some of them to start going full blown racist for a while now. If you are correct it is only because he is from diverse South Florida and many of the republican voters there are not straight up white.

But I fully expect state legislators from the deep south states(where I am from) to start with the KKK sounding stuff. And they will keep their seats. But they will sink the republican party because while the upper Midwest and Mid-Atlantic republicans can live with dog whistles and pretend they are not racist, once my southern kin go straight racist the Yankees will once again put them in their place. At least I hope.

They feel free to express their true thoughts, thus the unbridled racism and misogyny.

It's unacceptable and inexcusable. And no, senator, you're not going to be let off the hook by one of those "I misspoke" pseudo-apologies. Other than the Deep South, this blatant racism and sexism is not tolerated. You are unfit for the job you hold (for now).

10. I'm not sure why he thinks using "niggas" is better than "niggers"

Speaking as a white guy, I'm not sure I would want to rely on parsing that particular distinction. Neither is appropriate in a professional context, and I can't see how he thinks that helps dig him out of the hole he put himself in.

I mean I guess desperate times call for desperate measures, but this is the lamest excuse since Roberto Arango tried to claim the picture of himself naked on his hands and knees posted on Grindr was documenting his weight loss.

c'mon everyone knows "Niggas" is just an affectionate way of saying "friend", "homie", brotha". while "niggers" is only used by racists.

Miami State Sen. Frank Artiles Has Blocked More Than 400 People on Facebook
WEDNESDAY, MARCH 15, 2017 AT 2:31 P.M.

Miami State Sen. Frank Artiles is swimming in some boiling-hot water after accepting nearly $2,000 in gifts from Florida Power & Light before rapidly advancing pro-FPL bills in his committee.

But don't criticize Artiles online — he'll probably just block you.

According to a public-records request filed by an amateur First Amendment advocate, Artiles has blocked roughly 400 people on Facebook — a massive number in an age when access to social media is increasingly viewed as a right afforded to all Americans. Politicians' social media block lists have sparked multiple lawsuits and public-records battles in recent years, from suits against police departments in California and Hawaii to legal battles over Miami Beach Mayor Philip Levine's own, seemingly extensive (and still secret) Twitter block list.

Artiles did not respond to New Times' phone call to his office yesterday afternoon, so it's unknown who's running his account or what motivated the Facebook shutdowns. But many of the people blocked appear to be liberal or left-wing users. Many of those he has blocked have profile pictures of LGBT flags, communist symbols, or Democratic insignias. Artiles even blocked the page Being Liberal, which simply posts left-wing memes and articles.

From this jerk's Wikipedia:

. . .

When the state's legislative districts were redrawn in 2012, Artiles was moved into the 118th District, which retained most of the territory that he had previously represented in the 119th District. He won the Republican primary unopposed, and faced only write-in opposition in the general election, resulting in a landslide victory to his second term in the legislature.

. . .

In 2015, Artiles filed a bill, along with fellow representatives Dennis K. Baxley, Campbell, Gaetz, Hill, Moraitis, Rodrigues, and R. Stone, proposing that public bathrooms be limited to people by biological sex. This caused backlash from the transgender community. The bill died in committee.[5] During this time Artiles was also alleged to have instigated an altercation with a student while at a bar in Tallahasse.[6][7]

Florida Senate[edit]
In 2016, after court-ordered redistricting created a redrawn Senate district in his area, Artiles opted to run for the seat against incumbent Democratic Senator Dwight Bullard. Despite Bullard's incumbency, Artiles was aided by the new district's demographics, which were 75% Hispanic. Artiles' campaign also ran a series of ads criticizing Bullard for touring Israel with a guide from the pro-Palestinian Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement, and for his support of Black Lives Matter, which Artiles' campaign called a "terrorist organization".[8] Artiles ultimately won the general election, 51 to 41%.[9]
