on this. Reagan did everything in his power to hurt public education, the EPA, taxes, etc.

This is the America he wanted. This was his Ayn Rand dream, the destruction of the middle class and everything it entails. I don't know if Ronnie Raygun would have gone this far, but he gave all this a huge push into this direction. By the time Bill Clinton came along, a fun, young progressive, the drooling selfish idiots on the other side wasn't going to have any of that, they had to destroy their own backyards.
