Or any non-white person?
In SC state legislature:
H.3930 was sent to the Senate, providing authorization to carry a handgun in public without a permit, either openly or concealed, implementing "Constitutional carry" in South Carolina. The new provisions for carrying a handgun lawfully in public without a requirement for obtaining a concealable weapon permit apply only to those individuals who legally purchase a firearm from a properly licensed and certified firearms dealer. This bill also provides for SC to honor valid out-of-state permits to carry that are held by residents of other states who are at least 21 years old or military personnel.

(16,423 posts)Cops shoot black guy.
Cops say it was a split-second decision because he had a gun.
Except that he had the constitutional right to have that gun.
And the NRA somehow has no interest in standing up for this guy's gun-rights...

(65,357 posts)held an air gun he had picked up off the shelf in Walmart. IOW, He might have been planning to purchase it.
He was holding it in a nonthreatening way as he talked on his cell phone--actually barrel down, slightly swinging it and sometimes putting the end of the barrel on the floor as though the air gun were a cane.
This was in an open carry state where white guys deliberately go into stores with rifles slung over their shoulders to prove they have the right to open carry.
But the cop shot him on sight, without even a warning.
The 2A is for all citizens.

(1,907 posts)The guy who was legally carrying a weapon picture was posted all over the place as the shooter. Even msm was bringing it up before he got cleared. So people have been shown to freak out.

(685 posts)why did those filming only show a wee bit on the white guy? For all we know they could have hand cuffed him too and ran a check.
I also noticed the different neighborhoods which probably played a role in their actions.
what I would have liked to have seen is both men dressed the same and in the same neighborhood.

(6,278 posts)I'd still find it very problematic that one's rights and treatment by law enforcement depends on the neighborhood and clothing!

(6,324 posts)Totally different agencies and jurisdictions that can have a host of different SOP's and concerns.
So it really doesn't prove anything, but serves to cement preconceived notions of viewers who won't look past what they want to see to see how the people making that film manipulated circumstances to get what they wanted.

(22,976 posts)Where non-white people can barely sneak a drink from a public water fountain without being arrested. Klan rules state that they should not be taught to read or write, and they sure as hell *can't* carry, let alone own firearms!
Even with sarcasm offset, it's a safe bet that some white folks in SC still think that way. Which is reprehensible.

Never had one of my students ever report any issues.
People make a lot of assumptions about stuff they haven't ever done or tried.
