Man arrested for stalking Malia Obama

Authorities have reportedly arrested a man who is accused of stalking and harassing Malia Obama, the elder of former President Barack Obama’s daughters.

According to The New York Daily News, the U.S. Secret Service detained the 30-year-old Jair Nilton Cardoso after he allegedly stalked Malia Obama, 18, at multiple locations, including attempts to enter the White House in the past.

In one instance, Cardoso reportedly asked Obama to marry him after showing up to an office where she was completing an internship Tribeca.

Sources told the The New York Daily News that the Secret Service also stopped Cardoso when he tried to follow Obama out of a building in the West Village, where she had another internship.

how long Malia has Secret Service protection? So often stalkers don't stay in custody very long, especially if they don't have any previous record. It is part of the personality type to put on an act for authorities to prove that they're harmless and only temporarily obsessed with their target. It is very common that the good old boy network at the police department will not take the threat to the woman seriously. Once released, they often disappear into the shadows only to reappear when it is least expected. Stalkers aren't stupid. They watch and wait all the while assessing their target and the safety net that may or may not be present. It is terrifying. I know - it happened to me. I pray the SS can continue to keep Malia safe.

it has become routine for a president to sign a executive directive extending the protection for their children (Bill Clinton did it for Chelsea, GWBush did it for his daughters), I suspect Obama did it for Malia and Sasha (Malia is 18, Sasha turns 16 in June). Typically the period of extended protection is not publicly disclosed.
