regarding other topics. We have special congressional elections going on. There will be state and local elections happening in 2017. There are preparations to be made for House and Senate elections in 2018. We have a adult child sitting in the White House who needs to be removed from that position or, at least, thwarted in his goals. Legislation is being presented and discussed in Congress and in state legislatures that threatens to damage many gains we have made in the past eight years.
There are many topics that deserve our rapt attention and discussion. What is in the past cannot be changed. What is in the future can be changed, through hard work and dissemination of information. 2020 will come soon enough, but in the meantime, there are things we can be doing to move our country in a progressive, rather than regressive direction.
I strongly suggest that we put the recent past behind us and focus on the future. If we do not, we are at serious risk of seeing our nation sink further and further into a conservative, deplorable state. Whoever among our Democratic Party and progressive leadership can assist us in achieving our goals should be encouraged to do so. We need all the help we can get.
I hope we can do all of this effectively, and without increasing the animus within our own political community.
That's my opinion on this Thursday morning in April. Thanks for reading it.

Make a commitment to also help get out the vote and start supporting all those awesome women who will be running from local to the national level.
Last but not least. I'm going to try to put this in a way that offends every one just to be fair.
To the national leaders and the rest: STFU if you're not going to help unite the party. From the center all the way to the left we're on the same team.

(58,649 posts)We don't need 100% agreement to work together for the common good.
I posted recently how I won't participate in 2020 speculation threads. My personal choice. I tend to avoid the love/hate Bernie and Hillary threads, too. Water under the bridge for me. Where our prior candidates can help us, great. If they flub up a bit and seem counter productive, well, shit happens.
In recent special elections, we at least moved the bars a bit and got people out to throw a scare to the Repubs. Need to continue that. If we can swing the numbers by 20 points in a red state like Georgia, we can win dozens of House seats across the country if we keep our heads. Apparently, we have literally thousands of new dems running for office at the state and local level. That's a good thing.

(146,296 posts)If we can leverage Trump's stupidity, we should be able to regain a majority in the House, and perhaps even in the Senate.
With that, we can stymie Trump's insane plans, beginning in 2019.

We're wasting valuable time, it seems to me. There's stuff happening right now.

(146,296 posts)That will begin sometime in 2019. I hope we get a strong slate of new, fresh candidates at that time.
I'm not even thinking about that yet. Too much to do in the meantime.
