Former Sen. Frank Artiles, from Miami, made the comments Monday night at the Governors Club in Tallahassee. He previously refused to resign.
In his resignation letter, Artiles said it is clear his words fell far short of what he expected for himself. You can read his whole letter via Politicos Marc Caputo.

(15,942 posts)It's also great that he didn't give in to the non-apology, "I'm sorry if you were offended" which is usually the republicon way.
He actually acknowledge his hurtful remarks and his behavior and for this he at least knows that he has a lot of self reflection in his future.

(23,396 posts)He stated that he apologized because his actions fell far short of what he expected of himself. He did not state the manner in which his behavior didn't align with his expectations. The responsibility level of his statement is better than "sorry if you're offended"; at the same time, I think his statement could have come from a standpoint of greater responsibility.

(15,942 posts)Hopefully he will learn from this experience to never speak words that are harmful to another person. His actions will dictate how he moves forward.
I mainly wanted to point out at least he didn't use the standard non-apology apology.

(9,527 posts)His first defense was that he said "niggas" and not "niggers". But yes he did at least do more than the standard non-apology statement.

(20,629 posts)the story. Not that it would excuse his words by any stretch of the imagination, but it would somehow seem more comprehensible if he was harkening back to the "sweet, sweet pre-Civil Rights era" he recalled so fondly as a youth.
This little shit is younger than I am!
