So, I thought I would post it again here..
The legendary Kyung-Wha Chung, one of the greatest violinists of this or any other generation, will perform ALL SIX Bach Sonatas and Partitas for Solo Violin on the same concert !
For ANYBODY at all interested in classical music, or just culture and the arts in general, this is a REALLY BIG DEAL.
If that is not your cup of tea.. not so much..

(40,416 posts)It is a foreground/background thing, as Douglas Hofstadter wrote about in Godel, Escher, Bach. As Hofstadter explains the background and contrapuntal melodies are filled in by the listener's brain.
J S Bach! Was brilliant.
Here! Here is Glenn Gould from 1955. 32 not so simple variations on a rather delightful theme.
Bum, bum, ba-bum, ba-bum de-bum de-bummm...
And yes, the contrapuntal is more explicit here.
Also, I recommend the six solo cello suites for pure Bach.

Without any judgements, the difference between the two performances is interesting.
Both are extraordinary performances!

It is like looking up from base camp.
The only thing I prefer, if I had to choose one to be with on a desert island, would be... the harpsichord...
