others see that he is dominant and in control.

OTOH, he is a "nester." I am a nester, too, and that tendency does tend to increase with age.

A nester goes out and does what he or she must away from home base, but as soon as he or she can, the nester hurries home and "gets comfortable." I doff my clothes and put on comfy PJs or a nightgown and five as soon as I get home, even if I know I will have to get dressed to go out again an hour later.

apparently Trump gets into his robe and lounges around his private quarters watching cable TV at 6:00 p.m. (Of course if he were actually doing the work of being president he would not be able to take evenings and weekends off like that.)

I don't watch TV, but if I am not working at home (trading papers, preparing for class, researching), I just hang around reading, writing, surfing the net, posting on DU, or playing with my cats.

I despise Trump, but I understand the inclination to nest.

The bus thing with the senators, though--that was, as Bernie says, a photo op. And it was also a blatant dominance display. I wish the Dem senators had just sent a couple of them as representatives to brief the rest later if anything important happened to be revealed.

As I get older, I am more uncomfortable with unfamiliar surroundings. With all Trump's insecurities and paranoia, it is very likely he is the same way. It could also explain why he needs to have his daughter and son-in-law at hand most of the time. Living in the White House must be a difficult adjustment for him. Trump Tower and Mar-a-lago are where he feels both protected and in control.

I agree about the bus, it was a display of his power and was meant to humiliate and subvert the senators.

is outside of his "comfort zones" (the New York penthouse but especially Mar-a-Lago -- his urge to go there every weekend is I think very obsessive and suggestive of mental illness not merely the spoiled behavior of a jackass. I don't think he is living in the White House really at all -- unlike every single president ever but of course Trump seems to be able to anything without Republican complaints).

Of course I don't think any of this excuses him (or gives a pass to the idiots who voted for him). IF he is suffering from dementia I believe that agoraphobia can develop as part of that disease. He goes to great lengths to avoid any unfamiliar spaces -- even during the campaign, after every rally, he would FLY BACK TO NEW YORK even when the time and travel made no sense. His behavior is extremely childlike even -- he will only go to certain spaces and surrounds himself with Ivanka and Jared like a baby blanket.

Other than this alleged "coke button" reported on, I think the First Family basically has their own residence day to day, other than the hosted dinners which I'm sure they have a staff for. They probably have housekeepers, but you can't order them around.

I highly suspect 45 wants to be able to summon room service instead of doing things for himself.

I guess he's just living there himself since Melania is in NY.

about him flying back to New York after every rally. He was behaving like an insecure dictator even before he became president. He is living in a very unpredictable world now and eventually it could to lead to a major meltdown. He used to have so much control over his world and now that's gone.

I can't think how you've got the impression that he "can only be in a couple of places". He's narcissistic, and a megalomaniac, and that explains making the Senate go to the White House. Trump didn't do anything useful (no surprise there):

Senators did say that Trump was present at the briefing to welcome them, and then passed it over to the team running the show: Defense Secretary James Mattis, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Joseph Dunford.

So this was about him trying to look important. There were people who know how to do their jobs who talked to the senators (though they say they didn't learn anything special), but Trump desperately needs to make it look as if he's doing things, especially with his self-imposed "100 days" milestone coming up. So he tried to insert himself into the process, at the great inconvenience of everyone else. In a normal administration, the secretaries etc. would have gone to the Senate, without the president at all.

He goes to Mar-a-Lago all the time to improve his profits there. People pay $200,000 to be close to the president. Plus, it's his, and that strokes his ego.
