Republicans - What Are They Good For?

Absolutely nothing!

Well, that is the first response that comes to mind. But to be fair, Republicans can be relied on for certain things – and we should be grateful for their persistence in ensuring that the nation doesn’t devolve into something resembling democracy.

Without Republicans, every citizen would have affordable healthcare and an affordable education. Thank God we have the GOP to put the brakes on those initiatives; what good could possibly come from having a healthy, well-educated populace?

Without Republicans, women would have complete domain over their own bodies. Imagine the untold dire consequences that would ensue if women weren’t forced to give birth to children they can’t afford, or children born of rape and/or incest.

Without Republicans, the minimum wage would be raised – wreaking havoc on the economy by virtue of minimum-wage workers having more money to spend on goods and services in their local communities, instead of having to rely on gov’t-funded food stamps in order to survive.

Without Republicans, we’d face the horror of our children learning the Devil’s Tools in their classrooms – things like science, math, and sex education – when everyone knows that prayer and Bible study render such nonsense irrelevant.

Without Republicans, we wouldn’t have hypocrites running things. We wouldn’t have thrice-married elected representatives schooling us on the sanctity of marriage while standing beside the last mistress they dumped their previous wife for. We wouldn’t have the tearful confessions of men caught in bed with prostitutes, or diaper-wearing men caught in brothels, or even swear-to-God “straight” men caught trying to solicit sex from under-age boys. The mind boggles at the thought of not having such men as role models.

Without Republicans, corporations and wealthy individuals would be forced to pay their fair share of taxes – and we’ve all been told by Republicans, repeatedly and consistently, just how completely unjust such a tax system would be.

Without Republicans, we would lack the necessary lens to see that skin-colour, ethnicity, sexual orientation and religious beliefs are far more important than seeing each other simply as fellow citizens. One can only imagine the downfall of our civilization should we lose sight of promoting that kind of division.

Without Republicans, we wouldn’t be discussing a multi-billion-dollar border wall that will never be built, while our infrastructure, our schools, our safety-nets that assist the most vulnerable among us collapse due to lack of funding. We wouldn’t be blaming the ills of our country on undocumented Mexicans, Muslims, or immigrants – we would be focused on eradicating the ills borne of bigotry and racism.

Without Republicans, we would have no one to un-do the good done by Democrats; we would have no one to take away our hard-won rights and inherent freedoms. We would have no one to turn to when we need to be lied-to, deceived, promised things that will never come to be, while those making the promises enrich themselves as they ignore the lives of those who elected them.

Above all else, without Republicans, we wouldn’t have a mentally unstable, incompetent asshole in the Oval Office. We would not have an ignorant know-nothing as our commander-in-chief. We would not have a man allegedly “leading the nation” between golf games – while under investigation for colluding with our adversary, Russia, in order to be elected – sitting in the White House.

Republicans – what are they good for? They’re good for all of the above. And they're very good at all of it.
