Let the GOP own the government they are in charge of and trying to lock us out of.
If they can't keep the country running smoothly on their own let America see that clearly, every day.

(11,175 posts)If the GOP tries to use a "must-pass" bill to fund the wall or do some other nastiness, then Dems should vote No while publicizing the willingness to support a resolution that merely continues current spending. Then any shutdown is clearly the Republicans' fault.
If the Republicans do compromise with reality and propose a clean bill, but enough diehard Freedom Caucus members vote No because of some crazy right-wing grievance, then it's dangerous for the Democrats to vote No. Appropriations lapse and it's mostly the Democrats' fault.
In addition to a clean bill, the Democrats could consider supporting a bill that throws some red meat to the Republican base, provided that it also includes some things the Democrats want. They could reasonably decide that a bill like that was a net gain. The problem is that negotiating such a coalition to keep the government funded would require reasonable people on both sides and even then would take a long time, so this option is a real long shot.
