Republican National Committee chair Ronna Romney McDaniel said Wednesday that failing to fulfill Donald Trump's campaign promise to build a wall along the Mexican border will hurt the party in the 2018 midterm elections.
"They're gonna lose the trust of our base if we don't keep our promises, our base is gonna walk away," McDaniel said when asked by conservative radio host Laura Ingraham about the possibly of the wall not being built or funded. "They're gonna feel like, 'hey you said one thing on the campaign trail to get elected and you didn't act on it.'"
"Certainly this was front and center in his campaign and our voters are gonna expect us to act on it," she added.
Earlier, McDaniel said Republican voters would be holding their elected officials accountable in the midterm elections if they didn't keep campaign promises.

(6,390 posts)A lot of companies know the minute their company logo is seen building that wall, they can kiss off a lot of other business. And that will at minimum hurt their bottom line or put them out of business once the wall is done...assuming it even gets done. They may find smaller companies willing to do it, but the construction will go very slow and they are likely to fold in the middle of the project. And the next company will come in and say how the previous one cut corners and have to redo whole sections....
It would be called the great wall of boondoggle.

(81,235 posts)After enough of this promise-breaking and fudging on what was promised and dancing around and tweeting about how "Mexico will pay for it later!", I'm guessing that there just might be enough of the trumpkins who decide they've had it with this guy, this is one lie too many for even them to stomach or excuse or swallow or ignore. And at that point, WE get the House back.
All we need is just enough of them to get tired of being toyed with and screwed that they'll stay home with an attitude of "screw you back!" That's all we need.
Several of the groups I have joined since January, like Code Blue and Monkey Wrench Brigade and Indivisible are well aware of nearby districts that can be flipped. Darrell Issa's is one of 'em, for sure - to the south of L.A. Steve Knight's is another, to the north of L.A.
And now, THIS, too, farther north from L.A.:
COUNTY PROSECUTOR ANDREW JANZ SAYS HE'LL CHALLENGE DEVIN NUNES FOR CONGRESS SEAT (from a couple of days ago)
A violent-crimes prosecutor with the Fresno County District Attorneys office is planning to challenge incumbent Rep. Devin Nunes in Californias 22nd Congressional District election in 2018.
Andrew Janz, 33, is launching his campaign Tuesday, touting his prosecutorial credentials and his nearly lifelong connections to the Valley and criticizing Nunes for his close ties to President Donald Trump and concerns over Nunes actions related to an investigation of Russian interference in last years presidential election.
Im not a politician; Ive never considered running for Congress until recently, Janz told The Bee on Monday. Most of the stuff in local and national media has pushed me to get involved, he added, referring to a House Ethics Committee investigation into whether Nunes chairman of the House Intelligence Committee mishandled classified information related to the House Intelligence Committees Russia probe.
I deal with confidential information on a daily basis, Janz said. Im in a profession thats all about ethics.

Worried you Republicans will have American boots on the ground in some war real soon.

(7,217 posts)I remember before the election when Trump supporters were screaming about that damn wall over every other policy. In particular Laura Ingraham and Ann Coulter. THAT WALL was the singular unifying issue on which they all agreed - vehemently!
27 Sept. 2016 (emphasis mine):
Caller: Im just saying, hes appealing to people who are very frustrated and angry. Their frustration and anger can only be subsided if he makes his promises true. And he has a lot on his shoulders. Maybe he himself doesnt even know how much. But if he doesnt come through for us, hes going to have bigger problems, bigger problems than what you know.
Glenn Beck: Okay. So if he doesnt build a wall like China, then hes in trouble? Its the wall. (Is) that your line?
Caller: Oh, hes in so much trouble. You dont even understand the backlash of us, the ones who are so frustrated and angry and tired of all the political stuff. Were going to come after him personally. You know what I mean? Were going to get him.
That is a Secret Service level of a threat!
From Gin and Tacos, August 30, 2016 (emphasis mine):
No matter how clueless, every Trumper can name one (if only one) thing: Build. The. Wall. They chant it. They wear shirts and wave signs printed with it. They talk about it incessantly. If there is any one thing that Trump and his supporters agree upon unconditionally one universal truth in their bizarre alternate reality it is build the wall. I daresay the wall is a deal-breaker for them. They do not appear willing to negotiate about this wall. They want The Wall. Demand it, even.

http://www.mediaite.com/online/rick-perry-trumps-border-wall-will-only-be-a-virtual-wall/
Well, its not, Perry agreed. Its a wall, but its a technological wall, its a digital wall There are some that hear this is going to be 1,200 miles from Brownsville to El Paso, 30-foot high, and listen, I know you cant do that.
Perry is the second Trump supporter to suggest that his trademark border wall wont actually be a physical wall. New York Republican Congressman Chris Collins said in May that he thought it would be a virtual wall, and that Trump supported rhetorical deportation.

(6,355 posts)Seriously, while they may not like it, the unfortunately reality is that they understand the value of 218...when push comes to shove they may not like but they'll vote R since the alternative is a democratic house. They may be pissed at Trump or the GOP but they're terrified of a Dem House.

(26,620 posts)called yesterday.. he's a trumper, idiot! But, after the election he said some nasty stuff to me on FB and I unfollowed him.. such petty shit for two 70 year olds, but here we are.
After the FB thing, he called a few weeks later to apologize. He said he couldn't sleep because of what he said to me and was sorry. We made up...I've known him half our lives.
He called again yesterday.. didn't want to argue, but wanted to ask if I would be against the wall if the Dems wanted it. I said, of course. He's a Texan, and he really wants this wall. He thinks it'll be twenty feet deep who knows how tall, and thinks we need it. We had a good talk and disagreed.
It's all about that fucking wall.
