(47,209 posts)Her switch from Berner to conservative but it appears it's her alright. She's a loud mouthed opportunist. There's tons of "ex republicans" claiming to be progressive now and some- like her- reversing course in the opposite direction.

(14,400 posts)Personally I think she was scamming Sanders the whole time. She's always been a "little off", or better "nutty as a squirrel turd" to me, although I never really paid that much attention to her.

(22,055 posts)The picture on the right shows two people making "Okay" signs. My Google search for "White Power Salute" turned up images of the Nazi salute and a similar angle of the arm but with a closed fist.
When did the thumb-forefinger circle with three extended fingers become a racist gesture?
Thanks, in advance.

(12,693 posts)The three fingers are spread apart to represent a "W" and the thumb and forefinger represent a "P". It's been around for several years used by the nazi skinheads. 45 throws it all the time during his speeches. Leaves no doubt about who these people are and what they represent.

Head Planning Dude at Alt-Right HQ: "Hey let's make the stupid leftists believe that "A-OK" actually means "White Power" and then after a few years, we'll tell them that it was really just us demonstrating our approval of Trump's latest speech. Boy that'll make those libtards look dumb! They'll be so confused they won't even notice that we are white supremacists."

(16,201 posts)A normal person off the street is going to say "that's an OK symbol" and agree that the left has gone overboard on seeing racism everywhere once the right starts that argument - and you know they will.

(3,030 posts)OK (gesture)
Negative connotation
While the gesture is not positive in some countries, in certain parts of middle and southern Europe (although not in Spain or Portugal) the gesture is considered offensive,[6] as in you are a zero or you are nothing.[not in citation given] The connotation of zero or worthless is known in France and Belgium, while in some Mediterranean countries such as Turkey, Tunisia, and Greece, in the Middle East, as well as in Brazil and parts of Germany, and several South American countries, it may be interpreted as a vulgar expression: either an insult (you are an asshole), the slang for anus itself, or an offensive reference to homosexuality.[1][7][8]
I don't take it as racist, just vulgar.

Nanjeanne
(5,002 posts)begin to guess. Anyone who does is just stating their opinion of her motives. It says nothing at all about Bernie Sander's message - which obviously is "divisive" to you and some people for your own reasons - but not to many many others.
R B Garr
(16,993 posts)overnight, do you? She obviously saw how to use his divisiveness against Democrats and now she's making white power signs. I'm sure she didn't just change overnight, so it's not hard to figure out what her motives are/were.

(7,369 posts)but neither is Obama responsible for all of Wall Street actions by giving a speech to one firm. Sanders said of Obama ""I just think it does not look good," it equally doesn't look good when you have your picture taken with with a former supporter that is someone who flashes white power symbols at the white house. It doesn't look good, that is all.
Nanjeanne
(5,002 posts)speech to one firm?
Sanders said "I just think it does not look good". I agree with Sanders. I don't like the way it looks and would have preferred he not get a very large amount of money to speak to a Wall Street firm but it's Pres. Obama's choice. I can only control my response to it - not what he chooses to do.
How that has anything to do with Sanders and this Cassandra person - I can't fathom. Did Sanders stand up next to her when she was giving the "White Power" salute? Or speaking out against Black Lives Matter? If he posed with her yesterday - maybe you have a point and there's some comparison you can make -- otherwise . . . no, not so much.
Eko
(7,369 posts)but imparts no more information beyond that. Exactly the same as with Obama. Pretty simple really. They are both guilt by association, if Sanders can do it, why cant others?

Eko
(7,369 posts)giving a speech, what do you see in that case?
Nanjeanne
(5,002 posts)a number of topics like income inequality, voter suppression, regret on not pushing harder on the public option - and maybe speaking at a place like the Carter Center. Or giving a speech where tickets were by lottery and people like me would have a chance to hear him.
But he didn't ask me my opinion. He can do whatever he wants. I just have a right to my opinion on whether I'm disappointed in it being a talk to a Wall Street firm - for a boatload of money.
And yes, I know, Cantor Fitzgerald and 9/11. I also know Canter Fitzgerald and $6 million and ordered disgorgement of nearly $1.3 million in commissions, plus interest, for selling billions of unregistered microcap shares in violation of federal law. And Cantor Fitzgerald and their sports-betting affiliate has agreed to pay $22.5 million in penalties and forfeiture to the U.S. government in conjunction with its involvement in illegal gambling and money laundering.
So . . . everyone has a right to make choices and everyone has a right to react to those choices. Hey - that's what makes America (and should make the Democratic Party) great!

Oh, and by the way hes giving this speech at their annual healthcare conference
a subject that Obama cares deeply about and will forever be associated with since his signature healthcare legislation has been dubbed Obamacare. Its also an issue that Cantor Fitzgerald championed even while still reeling from the losses they suffered on 9/11, by promising to cover the health care of the families of their lost employees for 10 years!!

Eko
(7,369 posts)Why do you think it looks bad for Obama to give a speech to a wall street firm?
Eko
(7,369 posts)Why you think it doesn't look good just what you would have preferred. So why doesn't it look good?
Nanjeanne
(5,002 posts)I think it doesn't look good because he has been out of office for a very short time and still is the standard-bearer for the Democratic Party - because the Democrats are struggling to win elections and Wall Street firms are not at the top of the "like" column for many many voting Democrats - because taking a fee of $400,000 seems like a huge payout by an industry that seems to be excessive in the eyes of many people that the Democrats need coming out to vote for them. Many people may understand why Wall Street was bailed out but still be resentful that they are now bigger than ever, are still giving out huge salaries and bonuses, still supporting more deregulation all the while middle class and working poor people are struggling to save any money or seeing their retirement funds diminishing and public pensions being raided and I'm very concerned that Democrats will keep losing elections if they are perceived as the party that stands with the uber-wealthy and Wall Street.
But obviously that's not a big issue here on DU. *shrug*
Guilt by association. Thought so.
You are hysterically funny. I didn't realize your posts were satire. Thanks! Best laugh of the day.
Yup, cause that wall street firm is responsible for what other firms have done that was bad. And because that firm is responsible for what other firms have done and Obama is giving a speech to them on health care it looks bad, why does it "look" bad?, because of guilt by association. This is a simple logical thing and the fact that you cant get it and think it's funny is pretty sad. Now if it was Goldman Sachs you would have a case, but its not and you don't.
when Cha says thanks to you!

My answer to you would be - if it was David Duke - then yes, the optics are bad and Bernie should have known better. But it's my understanding that her conversion came rather lately - so, while I think Bernie has been very prescient in how things like deregulation of Wall Street and voting for the Iraq War, etc would turn out - I don't see that he would make a killing on the Psychic Hotline and know that this Cassandra person would become a Trump supporter after he took a picture with her!
