Husband-and-wife architects Tod Williams and Billie Tsien of New York will also attend Wednesday's event. The future Presidential Center is expected to open in Jackson Park in 2021 at a cost of at least $500 million.
"More than a building or a museum, the Obama Presidential Center will be a working center for civic engagement and a place to inspire people and communities to create change," the foundation said in Monday's announcement.

(1,129 posts)As such, you have as much power as he does when it comes to regaining house & senate seats in 2018
Or ensuring that the KGOP, at the very least, does not gain any ground at the state level..
..and ideally loses as much ground as possible.
Now that you have introduced yourself &
identified your favorite politicians,
perhaps you would also like to share
any ideas you may have regarding
strategy or available opportunities to
actively contribute to the successful achievement of the common goal .....
(Which is to regain as many federal and state seats as possible in the 2018 election)
Beyond simply Waiting to hear from Obama or some other public figure.

(50,254 posts)It is no less legitimate for Senator Sanders and his supporters to try and influence the direction of this party than it was for the Clintons and the DLC to work to influence this party to move massively(and unnecessarily)to the right in the 1980s and early 1990s.
And the Sanders movement is simply a group of people of good will trying to work for their ideas, the vast majority of which are quite popular.
We can't gain ground if we don't change at all from where we were in 2016. And there's no reason we can't embrace the Sanders economic message(a message which is to the good of all)while retaining our social justice message(and expanding it beyond the conservative definition of social justice we've settled for at the moment to a full social justice message that includes a revival of the war against poverty).
Let's move to dialog and unity. We aren't Clinton people, we aren't Sanders people, we are just people...and we are ALL needed.

(1,349 posts)Senator Sanders keeps going out of his way to insist that he's not a member of this party, thus it's a lot less legitimate than the Democrats you refer to, in your unfair categorization. They committed to the party and did what was deemed best at the time.
Sanders has chosen not to be part of the party, despite saying that of course he would be a Democrat, no one has a problem if he and his followers wish to work for their ideas, they're quite welcome to join us in the party or to work with us, but they won't accomplish anything if they're busy attacking us. His ideas are not unique and they were quite popular before him and in spite of him.
We did pretty well in 2016, despite the numerous attacks, the disinformation and the lies told to people about what the party actually is and its history. We don't need to embrace Bernie's version of the economic message, it's been our own for quite sometime, just because it doesn't use his slogans, it doesn't mean that's something different.
Our problems with Bernie is that his slogans aren't new, his ideas not unique but he insists that we sacrifice our social justice principles, our civil and human rights principles as he did when he attacked Ossoff and embraced that right wing extremist. Our war on poverty is ongoing, it's not something Bernie created, and we won't do a darn thing to advance it if we keep insisting that race and gender issues are somehow not an integral part of it.
I'm all willing to move to unity, but Bernie and his people seem to be aggressively choosing to make that difficult. To the point that he's handing ammunition to the Republicans to use against us and creating a narrative of division that simply isn't true. We certainly are ALL needed, even those of us that Bernie and his supporters keep telling to sit down, shut up and move to the back of the line.
We are people, even the women and the POC and the immigrants that Bernie and his peeps get all confused, and if unity is the goal and Bernie and his people wish to unite and help us achieve the goals of our party, and not get all bogged down in taking credit and bullying everyone, then he and his followers are welcome.
We will not gain any ground if we allow this divisiveness to continue, Democratic ideals and the Democratic party doesn't need to be remade in anyone's image, and it's not exactly unifying to keep demanding this of us.

(31,823 posts)Right now.
It does not get better than someone who has no desire to run for President in a safe district throwing elbows at Trump every chance she gets.
Schiff is another one.
The two of them just keep piling on that ignorant little fucker in the White House. They can't stop!
Pssst - watch NJ. We are going to flip the bird to every single person that voted for Trump this November. We are just trying to teach them a lesson is all.
And when we do . . .we will have no social services "refugees" from Red States aka Trump states coming in here and stealing from hard working New Jerseyans.
This is war.

(42,862 posts)... I'm not one of his constituents, Al Franken's POSITIVE message and OPTIMISTIC outlook resonates with me.
He's got a HOMESPUN CHARM about him that truly exudes and represents DEMOCRATIC values. His DEMEANOR is calm and focused, he's always POLITE and PROFESSIONAL. He shows RESTRAINT and RESPECT... even when dealing with political opponents or adversaries.
I tell ya, there are several US Senators who'd be wise to take a lesson from Al Franken and change their behavior and attitude to be more like his.
