I suppose this is the day we celebrate rich land-owning white Christian men winning their independence. This is the day when were supposed to realize that we're better than anyone else, that our country is uniquely blessed by God, beat our chests, and drink.
Unfortunately for many people in the United States, this day really isn't one to celebrate.

(13,260 posts)there is no patriarchy. Patriarchy is a myth made up by western, uber-feminist, radical feminists, to hide the fact that women have twice the rights of men and would take the remaining rights from men by those same feminists getting the equal rights as men.

(4,026 posts)you're a white Christian male, preferably earning at least $200,000.00 annually. I myself am a 64 year old white male atheist busting my ass to make $13.00/hr as a blue collar jobber. And yes, I have a degree in the so-called hard sciences and a large part of another one (also in the "hard sciences" that I never quite got around to finishing though I was in good standing. In addition, I also have 16 years experience in biomedical research and excellent references, but these days that doesn't seem to count for much. Well, what the hell? God bless the fascist state. Right? Right.

(1,356 posts)includes a rich history of all the ethnic traditional music that came to our shore and developed into
the totally unique, and totally American music like Jazz, Blues, Bluegrass, Louisiana Cajun music, the ranchero & nortena music of Texas and all the varying kinds of American folksong. I celebrate the
popular song era beginning with Ragtime & Minstrel music, & the golden age of Tin Pan Alley, vaudeville & the Broadway stage shows, the movies (From the silents to the blockbusters of today).
I celebrate our history. I applaud the great moments, I boo at the dumb things we've done, but I
certainly don't dwell on the things I don't approve of. I'm very lucky to have been born an American.
I say that with a lot of respect & admiration for other countries & cultures big & small. Happy 4th.
