About McConnalls floor speech

It was predicted last night by Adam Jentleson.

Adam Jentleson is Former Deputy Chief of Staff, Senator Harry Reid

Having sat through hundreds of McConnell’s floor speeches, I can probably write his opener tomorrow. It goes something like this: 1/

He might kick things off with a wry expression of commiseration at the situation- like, “Well we certainly live in interesting times...” 2/

Then he will cite quotes from Dems to strike an absurd moral equivalency, which too many reporters will swallow hook, line and sinker. 3/

That equivalency will be, "a Democrat said X once, therefore it's OK that a Republican took this insane and unprecedented action." 4/

Then he'll express carefully calibrated disapproval of Trump for firing Comey but commit himself to no action to check or balance Trump. 5/

Then McConnell will close with a grave-toned admonition to his fellow senators to get back to the important work of the Senate… 6/

…including quickly confirming Trump’s handpicked FBI director (WHILE THINKING: so he can save us by closing the Russia investigation...) 7/

... knowing that conducting business as usual in the Senate is no longer a neutral action, but an active step towards normalizing Trump. 8/

The headlines may scream, “McConnell criticizes Trump on Comey.” But that will be the extent of his independence: one throwaway speech. 9/

McConnell will chuckle & walk off the floor, knowing but not caring that he's paving the way for Trump's lurch towards authoritarianism. 10/

but it's hard to read posts that have nothing but links to tweets, which may be inaccessible for some. A summary would be useful. Thanks.

... sometimes including me ... summarizing a well-constructed tweet thread/argument may well take more time, and be less accurate/impactful ... than the original tweets like you posted. I think we just need to move along to the next topic when it happens.

While you were gracious enough to summarize, often the choice is (a) post quickly, or (b) don't post.

Reasonable people can differ, I choose post quickly, even if some can't see.

while talking in public as much as possible. Very like a turtle actually.

And suspect the not caring in the summary is all too true; he really seems to lack any ideals or aspirations for the nation. But he also walks away knowing that this president can be removed from office whenever he and his backers decide it's time.
