Overheard Back-Channel Call

Note: The identities of the individuals in this conversation have not been unmasked. They are referred to as Voice 1 and Voice 2.

Voice 1: Vladimir, I need your help with Donald.

Voice 2: Hello, Jared. What is it this time?

Voice 1: We're worried. He seems to be slipping in his memory.

Voice 2: I do not see problem. He does not need to remember anything. We will tell him what to say.

Voice 1: I understand. But, yesterday, he did not even recognize me. He called me Paul Ryan.

Voice 2: Well, at least he did not call you Mitch McConnell. So, is not so bad.

Voice 1: I'm still worried. Things are getting bad here. We may all go to prison.

Voice 2: Is not my problem, Jared. You have been clumsy and have revealed too much. Perhaps prison will not be so bad for you.

Voice 1: But, you promised that everything would turn out OK.

Voice 2: And so it will, Jared. And so it will. Goodbye, Jared. Please do not call this number again. It will be disconnected.

Voiceover talent: Please tune in again tomorrow, folks, for another episode of "Back-Channel Follies. Will Jared ever reach Vladimir again? Is their relationship really over? What will be the next turn of events in this story of intrigue and stupidity?

Stinging is in his nature. Why would anyone not recognize that, eh?

In my lifetime, this is the weirdest political situation I have ever seen. I expect it to get even weirder.
