WTF. Maybe we can just have a reality show to elect our government officials. Line up all of the has-been and never-were celebrities and let the nation choose among them based on TV ratings or something.
Feh!
Oh, wait...I have another idea. Let's get the best and brightest people we can find to run for office and let's vote for the ones that give a damn about us. Now, that's something I can get behind.

(6,355 posts)His show - a complete waste of time but personally, we could do far far (far) worse in Ohio than him. Believe me, we've tried. I'd like to see someone younger who can own the statehouse for a couple terms but ODP isn't well know for developing (or recognizing) young talent.
I agree with your best and brightest people...and I think if we put Ohio's best and brightest in a room to share their views on public policy, the role of government in caring for the common good, the relationship between state and federal level programs, new approaches to invigorating a stale state economy, the role of alternative energy...I think you'd be surprised where Springer would stack up. And, when compared to most Dems in Ohio, he might actually be electable.
I know he's got a f'ed up national reputation from the TV show but rather than comparing him to Trump - think about comparing him to Franken.
Just my 2 cents.

(3,077 posts)Woolery was going off on Twitter. He is fucking clueless and living in the 50's. Jerry Springer is a whole other level. I prefer the best and brightest but the way the campaign cycle is and the attention of the masses, it's soundbites and charisma that sell.

(3,836 posts)I think it is a dreadful piece of work, myself and sadly indicative of much that is wrong with this country. But Springer himself is surprisingly progressive. He is extremely intelligent and knowledgeable. Rachel has had him on her show several times and I find that I really like him, so it is possible that his chances of winning are good and since we need progressives in every single niche and corner we can get them into this next election cycle, especially in local politics, why not?
