(31,110 posts)If the drug needs a PRESCRIPTION, why should they be advertised to prospective patients? Shouldn't that be the doctor's decision?
Instead of advertising to consumers so they can nag the Dr. for the drug?

(146,307 posts)EPI (Endocrine Pancreatic Insuficiency) is the latest of these. It's a rather uncommon diagnosis, but has lots of common symptoms, like bloating, belly pain, diarrhea and other abdominal symptoms. The current ads say that if you have even one of those symptoms, you should go to their website and fill out a questionnaire to take to your doctor. If you have EPI, the company's newest drug is just the thing for it. This is how insidious they have become.
"Say, Doc, I think I have that EPI. See, here's the symptom questionnaire I filled out the other day on the Internet. Do you think I should be on this drug, maybe?"
Over busy doctor says, "Well, we could try that. Here, I'll send this script to your pharmacy. Let me know how you do on it."
