in the wake of Trump's toxic hypernationalism.
The states would go their own way, regardless of the direction of the inept, blisteringly incompetent course of Trump's White House.
And because the blue states have the bulk of the population (because no one lives in East Cornhole, Arkassippi; no one worth talking about, anyway...), we have a national majority on our side.

It is really hurtful to sit here watching the USA being broken.
I compare the ordeal to watching the Arctic ice disappearing..bit by bit.
Should we stay or should we flee

(66,329 posts)I could probably score a work-visa pretty easily. And join the national health service of Canada that the USA hates and distrusts so much, simply because a bunch of wealthy corporations told us to.

I'd love to work in a little clinic in beautiful, liberal Victoria, B.C.
My focus is homeless medicine, so I should probably live in Vancouver instead; they have a pretty bad homeless problem.

I dont know how to pry the RW from our State houses.
They surround each other like a fortress. Rig the laws to favor their permanence
Like Trump's kids & Cabinet.
Apologies to those hurting who have seen their efforts be silenced, mocked & bulldozed over.

(66,329 posts)And I'm pretty sure PM Trudeau already knew it was going to happen; the way he worded his tweet: "The United States Federal government" as opposed to "The United States..."

(9,314 posts)Thanks for posting this. I was thinking of calling Republican Governor Larry Hogan's office to ask what his position is on this subject. It is unusual for Maryland to have a Republican Governor, but this Republican outlawed fracking in Maryland -- which previously has been allowed. I was delighted to see his name on the list as supporting the alliance.

(66,329 posts)We were for Federalism when it meant abolition and equal rights. We're only leaning towards states rights now because the Federal government became inimical to those concepts.
We're not advocating for slavery...
We're not the bad guys...

Especially in the absence of federal guidance.

(132 posts)Even though you are correct that GHG is not mentioned in the US Constitution, and that it looks like congress will not regulate GHG, I feel that the Dormant Commerce Clause may still play a significant role in this issue.

Any rulings can simply be ignored. It worked for the southern states in regard to slavery for many, many years.
