Davis, who Danced with Misty Copeland:Ballet Dancer Leaps Onto Subway Tracks and Lifts Man to Safet

After a 58-year-old man fell onto subway tracks Saturday night in Manhattan, a ballet dancer, who had just watched his wife perform with American Ballet Theater at the Metropolitan Opera House, leapt down after him. With a lift that they do not teach in dance school, he moved him to safety.

“At first I waited for somebody else to jump down there,” said Gray Davis, 31, a dancer with American Ballet Theater, said in a telephone interview on Sunday. “People were screaming to get help. But nobody jumped down. So I jumped down.”

The man, who the police said was homeless and whose name was not released, was pushed onto the northbound tracks at the 72nd Street station by a woman who then fled on foot, witnesses told the police. Soon after, the police arrested Carolyn Mack, 23, of the Bronx, on an assault charge. (She told investigators she did not push the man.) He was knocked unconscious after hitting the tracks, but regained consciousness before he was taken to the hospital, the police said.

Mr. Davis, a native of Greenwood, S.C., who has been a member of the corps de ballet at Ballet Theater since 2007, was not dancing on Saturday because he was recovering from a herniated disk. But his wife, Cassandra Trenary, a soloist, had danced in both the matinee and the evening performances of “The Golden Cockerel” on Saturday, and they were leaving the theater, with his mother, when the incident unfurled.

A hero, a ballet dancer with a herniated disc jumped to the tracks to save a homeless man.

Bravo Mr. Davis. Encore~

There are good people out there. A dancer, who's body is his lifes work jumped to the tracks with a herniated disc and lift a man to safety. Selfless bold and beautiful. He put himself in danger, yet he was fearless.

I wish she would dance in Boston. I love the ballet. My sister takes me every year. So, hometown girl? Too cool.

What a selfless act from Davis. We have an unkind world right now and this was the greatest act of kindness and selflessness.

... life and the entire world is a lost cause. No hope.

And then, something like this comes along to make one realize that there's some good left... that humanity does exist.

We all have a few days up and then a few down. It has been hard.

This story is touching. A selfless random act of kindness...well humanity really. Think about this Jackie...these are the people that trump wants to slash funding for. Our arts who give us grace and joy and a small amount of relief from some of the pain that this admin is inflicting on us...and then they, the arts and artist went a step further, Mr. Davis without fear jumped onto the tracks to save a homeless man....you know, the very same people trump wants to die and die quickly.

We are Americans and we are the ones we have been waiting for to make America great again.

.

I noticed that on most of the tracks, there are no places to hide if one find themselves on the tracks.

This would apply to people pushed on who have fallen onto them, or even for rail worker safety.
