Trump promised not to cut Medicaid & now seeks to gut it in both his budget & AHCA so can we PLEASE just be more outraged at comedians? FUGELSANG.

(146,288 posts)The two things have nothing to do with one another. One can be concerned about both without conflict.

(30,481 posts)Is exactly why we should have our priorities straight.
MineralMan
(146,288 posts)that are priorities for me. I can think about and post about all of them. No problem.

(30,481 posts)I never made mention of your mental acuity. Not sure why that is where you went.

(146,288 posts)However, I might post about one and then post about the other shortly thereafter. In fact, I often do that. Again, the two things are not mutually exclusive, as I said before. I can think about both of them within a very short period of time.

(30,481 posts)I thought so as well. You again go back to your own mental acuity. Something I have not questioned.

(11,736 posts)We certainly should prioritize our efforts based on the relative damage and problems caused by each incident. I totally agree with you there. However zero sum means If I win some, you lose some and vice versa. What Mineral Man is saying is that we can be upset by both Trump's nonsense, and when one of our own (or at least in proximity to us) does something stupid. Again, you are totally right that our main focus should be on the larger issue, which is what Trump is doing to enrich himself and damage the country. I however, can spare a minute or 5 to point out how dumb it is for a White comedian to use "house ni$$er", even if he is joking, or calling out racial bias, or whatever. If we just call it out, then move on, then we can focus on the other stuff. If we argue incessantly about why we shouldn't call them out, or should, or whatever else, then we spend days instead of minutes or hours on the topic.
Question: What should our priorities be according to you? Are you arguing that we should not point out problems with using racially charged words in a very inappropriate way by a person who is supposedly on the liberal side because there are more important things to do than to hold everyone to a standard?

What?
I wouldn't even consider debating someone who throws something so loaded and made up out there.

(37,748 posts)A rational mind may concern itself with multiple concerns.
I do however, deeply sympathize with those who are irrational and unable to, and with those who are fanboys and unwilling to.

(146,288 posts)Or something like that, I guess.

(115,677 posts)if a person's amount of outrage is finite, then focus it on the most important things. Or, to avoid outrage fatigue and then not being outraged at trump et al, let this pass by.
However, while Trump et al can cause serious damage to so many, it's important to call out the bigotry in others also.
