(146,288 posts)onto the airlines and on to the flying public. By taking the government out of the business of controlling the airspace, it becomes a commercial enterprise with profitability the highest priority. What could go wrong with that? (if that's really needed)

(6,390 posts)...privatizing the National Park System will work out just fine.
Welcome to Yosemite, brought to you by Trump Golf Courses. Please note, due to summer bigly attendance, entrance fees are now $300 per car. The Wawona Golf Course wasn't up to par (see what I did there), so most of Mariposa Grove has been clear cut and additional 9 holes were added to make Wawona an 18 hole course. The Yosemite Valley course will be completed next year and once completed we will start working on the Ansel Adams Wilderness and John Muir Trail courses. What a great way to honor these pioneers.
Please also visit our sister site, Yellowstone with its natural water hazards. We've recently placed all animals in a separate zoo for your family's enjoyment.

(6,390 posts)...its also a possible reality. My nightmare, is that some people actually think that this would be a good idea. Adjust entrance fee's during peak and low seasons like a hotel. Add attractions that generate additional income, etc. And they'll say the additional money is used to "preserve" the park, despite the fact they destroyed 90% of it to protect just 10%.
Hey, once you've seen one giant Sequoia, you've seen them all....or... we can build fountains more marvelous and on specific intervals instead of those mounds that spit water up and never on time.
I'll never forget when someone I knew quoted Ayn Rand and I retorted with a quote from Adam Smith. The person said what I quoted sounded socialist. My response "The father of modern economics and capitalism is in your words...A SOCIALST??!!". The back peddling was amazing. He even admitted that he didn't know much about economics...but yet, he was trying advocate a bogus economic ideology that would never work.
2018 will just be a band-aid. But the ignorance, is the long term cancer that needs to be cured.

(6,390 posts)My favorite trail is probably the one to Ostrander Lake. Done it twice in a single day...next time, I'll get the permit and stay overnight. But a part of me can't help think that there are people out there that think some paved blacktop or tram should take them up there. Yosemite, of for that matter, any national park/monument/etc. is not Disneyland. But too many people can't distinguish it.

(6,390 posts)Starting at over 7k elevation, six miles one way, 2k+ elevation gain... makes me wonder if I'm subconsciously into S&M. It kicked my ass, twice. And I'm not skinny (then again, people skinnier than me can't climb the 10 flight of stairs to our floor). But I enjoyed that trail more than Chilnualna Falls.
Don't think I'll have much of a problem getting a permit to stay overnight...that area gets hit heavily during the winter for the ski hut. Come summer, most try to reserve the valley area or along Tioga. The campgrounds along Glacier Point Road don't even require a reservation and seldom get full. If you exclude the people who go up that road just before sunset for the view, Bass lake, near Oakhurst, gets a heck of a lot more traffic.
But to be honest, aside from the Hetch Hetchy area, haven't done any hikes along Tioga.
Side note, committed a hikers sin in Hetch Hetchy and didn't bring enough water...was forced to fill up at Wampama Falls...without my purifier....best damn water I've ever tasted and didn't get sick. But then again, I've been through Montezuma's revenge...so, that may have had an impact.

(3,473 posts)This sounds like something not too different from Amtrak and we know how much RepubliCONs love to hate on Amtrak. They want to get rid of it and totally privatize it.

(32,701 posts)The private ATC will either cut corners to save money or we'll return to a time when only the wealthy could afford to fly.
Perfect.
