It is hated to imagine how anyone could be worse than Sessions. I don't even think he is smart, as well as being a sycophant racist pig, climate chane denier, on and on....

It is one of three state holidays honoring Confederate figures."

(5,730 posts)Sessions still has the lying to Congress problem, and who knows what else. Maybe he thinks he will be safer to stay in place. Assume he is looking out for his own skin at this point, and has an attitude of fuck DT. This has nothing to do w patriotism or loyalty by either he or DT.

(985 posts)His replacement would only be worse. Cut off the bloated orange head of the snake first, then deal with the remnants afterward.
If Trump fires Sessions, it will be for the same reason he fired Comey, because the investigation is getting close and he needs to impede it. As hideous as it seems, Sessions may be our best bet right now.
Disagree. Sessions does not have, nor does he deserve respect. He is a bottom feeder. A racist POS. Read what Coretta King said about him.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/powerpost/wp/2017/01/10/read-the-letter-coretta-scott-king-wrote-opposing-sessionss-1986-federal-nomination/?utm_term=.6f97333e175f
MrPurple
(985 posts)I know that he's a racist. The Senate was right to block him when Reagan tried to appoint him.
But, he still had enough of a connection with normal practices to recuse himself and allow Robert Mueller to be appointed. The AG is the single person who can do the most to quash the investigation into Trump. If Twitler wants him gone, there's only one reason, and that's reason enough to hope that he hangs in, for now.
It's not like our opinion is going to affect the outcome, but infinitely more is at stake with getting Trump removed ASAP, before he does catastrophic things. There's no question about Session's record on race, but it's not like Trump is about to replace him with Thurgood Marshall.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions said Friday that he has directed his federal prosecutors to pursue the most severe penalties possible, including mandatory minimum sentences, in his first step toward a return to the war on drugs of the 1980s and 1990s that resulted in long sentences for many minority defendants and packed U.S. prisons.
Civil rights groups, Republican lawmakers and even the conservative Koch brothers issued swift condemnations of the policy, saying that Sessions was taking the nation backward. Aggressive prosecutors, however, are likely to embrace the measure as giving them more tools to do their jobs.
......................................
Wow...even the asshole Koch Bros condem his approach.
MrPurple
(985 posts)It's like choosing whether to give up your grandmother or your niece to the wolves, hoping you can hold out until the rescue party arrives. Sessions' policies on mandatory minimums are horrendous. But, if Trump wants him gone, he's probably bucking him and it's the same issue of independence that Comey was trying to uphold. The first priority in replacing him would be to get a sycophant who will follow Trump's wishes with the investigations. And, there would be no reason to believe that Trump's replacement wouldn't pursue the same extreme sentencing policies.
Hopefully, a Democratic majority could take on Sessions after 2018. This is a moot discussion because we have no influence on the outcome, but I don't think dumping Sessions should be the first item on the agenda now. Focus on the megalomaniac that's a ticking timebomb global threat first, then go after the underlings.
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)charges Sessions brought against a white businessman when he was Alabama's attorney general. The judge dismissed ALL of them, saying that this was the worst abuse of power he'd ever seen. A competitor of the businessman was a donor to Sessions' campaign, but wouldn't you think there must have been other reasons for such...malicious zeal?
What OTHER abuses may Sessions have committed in those years? In addition, of course, to those black civil rights workers Sessions so famously tried to railroad into prison on falsified evidence? How many innocent people who lacked the means to fight him did he send to prison?
This man is evil.
