We are at high risk of dying from infections, kidney failure and heart attacks and strokes. I always wonder at these type graphs don't show the relation of diabetes to many disorders that can and do lead to death. My cardiologist told me that even though tests show my heart to be in great shape-just having diabetes gives me the same risk of having a heart attack as someone without diabetes who has already had one, having a second. (I hope you can make sense out of that sentence.) Anyway if a person with diabetes dies from stroke, heart attack, infection or kidney failure do they (statisticians) count that as a death from diabetes because it is.
