Comey release his opening statement today to minimize the impact of his Trump testimony tomorrow...
Comey knows the republicans will ask about unmasking and Hillary's emails and now those two issues will get greater coverage than if he had not released his statement today.
That's my take.

1. Or allow the Dems to ask smarter questions within the confines of what he's established he's
Willing to discuss. Which is a lot more than Coates and Rogers today.
He also took the narrative away from their "not pressured" bullshit. He making us think about that pressure- and where it led... his firing. |

2. I thought it was the Senate Intel Committee that released his prepared statement?

5. The first news reports didn't mention that... some now mention the committee posted the statement..
I'm not sure if Comey released or the committee released....

3. The statement is to innoculate himself from charges he made it up as he went along.
Nobody will care about Hillary's e-mails and unmasking tomorrow that didn't care them about them today.

4. Senate Intel committee released it.
Trump's team was probably ready for it tomorrow, but not today. And anything they pedal now will be subject to questioning.
As for unmasking, that was going to happen anyway. But this makes it harder to deflect. |
